Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
Ours asked once about 4-5yrs ago. I left the majority of the form blank and signed it. They are posted .06 & .07 so there is no doubts they are anti. What they don't know won't bother me.

Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
If asked I will simply ask them if that is medically relevant. When they start on about epidemics of violence or what not, I will kindly inform them that I go to my soldiers to handle those epidemics but not for the flu or poison sumac epidemics I seek a doctor for and ask if we can focus on the issues they are equipped to manage.

Our pediatrician had a couple questions along this line a year or two ago. I don't remember if we left them blank or just said no. There were no questions like this on any of this years forms.
My own doctor has not asked anything about firearms yet.

I've never been asked about gun ownership by a doctor, but if/when it happens I'll probably do a double-take, feign a startled expression, and respond "Of course!"

Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
I would respond to such an intrusive/not medically relevant question with "Who would you recommend as a new primary care physician/pediatrician or what have you", who asks only medically relevant questions.
Then, after getting their response, I would leave.
Would doing so be inconvenient?
Yes, of course, but your point would be made and instead of sitting there fuming, you'd feel light as a feather.
There are plenty of doctors out there who don't ask about guns in the home.
None of the ones I've seen asked about guns in the home - If they did, I'd promptly fire them, though I suppose my attitude has already been demonstrated...

Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
I neglected to address this "Now they ask each visit, even to my 7 yo son- "do you feel safe in your home?" Two visits (age 4-5) they asked him to draw a picture of what he thinks of home... scrutinizing the picture and choice of crayon colors."
This wouldn't be allowed by me of any child of mine.
This is outrageous!
If I heard such a question or request for a drawing of what he/she thinks of home with the following scrutinizing up we'd get up and out the door.
The nanny state and it's uncalled for intrusiveness is not going to happen with my acquiescence.

This is all part of the left's agenda trying to classify gun ownership, the same way the do infectious desease. They can't stand the fact that funding has been cut by congress, for the study of gun violence by the CDC, so they want to create a backdoor gun registry that they can access, through AMA.
If they can get doctors to identify gun owners, on medical forms, then they can use any medical information, to deem someone unsuitable for gun ownership. They want all of this information entered into NICS, to create another way to deny purchase.
The first time I am asked by my doctor, or a health insurance provider my status on gun ownership, will be the last time they see me.

Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
I am in the middle of changing doctors, and I happen to know for a fact that my new dr has his CHL and carries in the office. How do I know this? I know because I sold him a desk a few months ago when he was moving his private family practice into a new building. He came over to pick up the desk with his office manager, and I was openly carrying a Glock 19 at the time.....so the conversation naturally turned to guns, CHL, and hunting. He's a good Christian guy too.
We are going to get along just fine.

My doctor is a gun owner and hunter, he had talked about getting his LTC, but since I haven't seen him in a while I don't know if he has. He has no problem with LTC holders carrying in his office, but my company has changed insurance providers, and I won't know if I will still be able to use him, until I get the network provider list. Fingers crossed.

Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
My family doctor has never asked but my Oncologist had it on their form (standard AMA form I suspect). I just left it blank. When he came in the first time, he said something to the nature of--I see you left a couple of questions blank. I told him they were not relevant to my care and he said good for you.
His practice is in with several other doctors and they collectively agreed to use this form. However, they are not posted at all and he said he would leave the group if they decided to post.

Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
I just used the doctor's patient portal to send the following email to him:
"Dr. XXXXX, something has come to my attention which concerns me greatly. I have a friend who is also one of your patients. He reported to me that at a recent visit to your offices, he was asked by the nurse filling out medical information whether he has firearms in the home.
I have heard of this being done, but I have never experienced it myself, and I certainly had no idea that it was being done in your practice. If there is a law which specifically requires you to ask this question, I would like to be informed of what it is so that I can approach my US Senators and Congressman about it. If there is no such law, I would like to know why such an invasive, intrusive, non-medical question is being asked in your practice.
Both {wife} and I have come to you for treatment for several decades, but this is truly disturbing news to both of us, and unless there is a specific law absolutely requiring you to ask this question, we may need to re-examine our choices. "
I will post what kind of reply I receive.

If I liked my Doc, I wouldn't let this cause me to break up with him. YMMV.RossA wrote:Just got a call from my Sunday School teacher, who uses the same family doctor that we use. He went in to see the doctor today and was asked the dreaded question about whether he has guns in the house. He told them it was none of their business, as I would.
However, I think it's time to find a new doctor, and to let the old one know why I am moving.
A few years ago my Doc said "I have to ask you about guns in the house but since this is Texas of course I assume you have guns. If you don't let me know and I'll write you a prescription."
I replied "Do you think my Rx plan will cover it?"
He laughed and said we could give it a try.
Bottom line, I didn't answer the question and he really didn't want to ask it.

Re: Looks Like I'm Getting A New Doctor
My doctor is fine with CC, but hates OC. He has two 30.07 signs by his front door, but no 30.06. He has never asked me this question. If he did, I would probably just ignore the question. Like Hillary does when she is asked something about e-mails, or Benghazi.
