I just thought this might be something people would be interested in, if you live in the DFW area.

This is a free seminar offered to our Fort Worth communty to discuss the psychology and tactics associated with YOUR response to an active shooter event.

This facility requires visitors to pass through a metal detector. Please plan ahead.

I'm not sure if the part about metal detectors means no carry. I'm going to contact them with that question.

This is where the Fort Worth police academy is located, I would say you can't carry there.

I don't think there is anything in the law which prohibits carrying on the grounds of a police academy. Sounds like city property to me.

It is Ross, but they also have 4 indoor shooting ranges. Additionally, the complex contains a 30,000-square-foot indoor tactical training village, which simulates a city streetscape complete with a school, a bank, a residential building, a gas station, an office and an apartment.

If they are doing a live fire tactical training exercise in their training village, or any 1 or the 4 shooting ranges are in use, I'd imagine that they'd forbid carrying there. Just my opinion.

If the agenda is the usual government approach of "run, hide and wait to die" then no thanks.

I did try to find out more information, but the link on the organization's website for the event presentation was a dead link.

I suspect that a LTC holder would have their blood pressure raised significantly at this. The organization pursues goals set forth by the World Health Organization, and I'm pretty sure the WHO don't care much for our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

I can see why they might WANT to exclude handgun carry from such an exercise, but I don't see any legal justification for them doing it.

I went to one of those seminars put on by Houston Police. It was indeed "run, hide, die."
As a last resort, they said to gang tackle the shooter and hit him with a chair or fire extinguisher.
I got a weird look (as usual) when I asked about armed citizens defending themselves. They quickly passed over the question and moved on.

Yeah... for about 1/10th of a second, I was interested in attending this meeting in Fort Worth, then I realized that it would be "run and hide" training and nothing more.

Our university police does the standard Run, Hide, and Fight as a Last Resort material. In fact they are doing one in my building in the morning (which I can't make).

But it is not necessarily wimpy, pacifist-infested propaganda. There is a good chance that an active shooter will be exploiting a lot of advantages over me: timing, surprise, long guns, body armor, etc. Running, hiding, and fighting as a last resort sounds like good tactical advice under those circumstances. If I shelter in my office with a pair of .357's, so much the better.

To be fair, I had a much more negative attitude about these sorts of trainings and videos prior to campus carry.

I have also taken a class. Three days of very intense training, including medical for gunshot wounds on others as well as yourself while you stay in the fight. The drills on the last day put it all of the training together and are very challenging.

Most of the folks that were there were law enforcement which surprised me. I asked about that and was told that they now teach law enforcement to go in as soon as one officer arrives on the scene rather than waiting for multiple officers to arrive before intervening. They have learned that, for every minute that they wait, on average, 3 more people die. The class was open to civilians as they are hoping that armed and trained civilians would intervene if they are so inclined.

I have been through some of the run and die training classes at work. My employer certainly does not like anyone asking about being armed.

Same where I work. They hosted one of these classes at our warehouse. I Don't think the concepts really registered with the average Joe Schmoe...

The end of the class had folks saying stuff like, "I would hide behind this..." or, I will hide behind that..." I told them that I know what my handgun cartridges will do and there was nothing in this warehouse that would stop my handgun cartridges but the red iron stations. If a shooter comes in here, he will be using rifle cartridges. I told them that there was a fire door at the other end of the warehouse...beat feet children...

They know I carry a gun and would ask me if I would come out into the warehouse and shoot the shooter...I said, "nope." When they ask why, I list the following reasons...

• IF I have a gun on me (it is discouraged where I work but not officially prohibited), it would be a handgun and I am NOT taking on a rifle with a handgun.
• IF I came from my office out into the warehouse, it is a very big tactical disadvantage for me. He would probably see me long before I located him.
• I have a four foot piece of angle iron next to my office window...I am making a door...
• Once I am outside and have access to my truck, options change...
