Daddy daughter weekend

My dad and I finally got to go back to the range this weekend for the first time in over a year due to his shoulder surgery. He actually listened and shot the .22 first for his daughter's peace of mind. Then shot his Kimber Ultra II which he was only able to put about 100 rounds through before surgery. His shoulder held up great and didn't bother him at all!

I'm still not a big fan of his Kimber (it likes to jam on me), but I'm so happy to see him back in the game and shooting so well after so long.

We topped off the weekend with college football brownies and ice cream. Seems I officially have my partner back!

Great post TT. I'm glad your dad is getting back to shooting, I had shoulder surgery, a little over 4 years ago, and I remember how hard it was to get back to doing things. I still don't have full mobility in it (probably never will) but I'm able to shoot everything, went dove hunting Thursday for the first time in 5 years, (my dove, to shell ratio bore that out) I really had a good time though.

T. T., Thats great. Its turning out to be a good Labor Day weekend for you. We are on our way to go walk the mall for about an hour...then find a place to eat. Hope today turns out great for you and your dad as well.

I still don't have full mobility in it (probably never will) but I'm able to shoot everything, went dove hunting Thursday for the first time in 5 years, (my dove, to shell ratio bore that out) I really had a good time though.

I'm afraid I need shoulder surgery. Pretty sure I tore my left rotator cuff last May in California, but I only have a catastrophic care insurance plan and can't afford the cost of surgery.

Anyway, I'm glad TT that you had a good time with your daddy. I'm pretty sure that I can speak for him when I say that the older we get, and the more leaves are on the ground instead of in the tree, the more precious time spent with our kids is to us older guys.

I'm happy for you both.

My daughter and I did a lot of outdoor activities from shooting doves to scuba diving and international travel. Then, wouldn't you know it, she grew up and got married.

The Granddaughter's (when they got a little old enough) and I went right into long distance cycling, kayaking, shooting, camping, and on an on. Now, darn it, they're all grown up and moved away.

So, when you write about your Dad and you sharing time together and doing activities you both love, it gladdens my heart.

As to shoulder issues, it seems many of us 'long in the tooth' guys suffer from it. Much like TAM, I'm looking at shoulder replacement surgery (or some type of shoulder surgery) in my near future. Cartilage worn away.

Spend as much time together as you can. Funny how life gets in the way. Like Abraham, I too used to do things with my kids (4 girls 1 boy) but they all grew up and got married. Then came the grand kids. Problem is all but 2 moved away in different directions. The 2 still hear are in high school so those activities come before Nonnie and Pawpaw now. But you can bet we are there watching their accomplishments every chance we can.

I've always been a daddy's girl, I'm the youngest of 3 girls (read his last chance for a son) so I kinda took up that mantle in some ways. I love shooting, watching football, and going to car shows. Things have gotten a little harder to manage the last few years between work school his surgery etc. It's been a long time since we had any "guy time." I missed it and him more than I realized. It's crazy how little time you can have together even living under the same roof.

Yep that's exactly what he did, only he's torn both shoulders. He got the right one repaired but I doubt he'll do the left. He's a TERRIBLE patient and irritates it all the time by over doing it. Count on not using your arm AT ALL for at least 2-3 months. And not doing much more than lifting a fork for the forth month. If you can't commit to that, you may not get full range back and will drive everyone else around you bonkers.
