Handgun measurements - FYI

Post by C-dub »

Since getting my Colt CG 1911 I've been wondering about a couple of things compared to my Glocks and since getting a couple different grips for the Colt. Today I answered those questions. I measured grip circumference, weight fully loaded and empty without a magazine.

Glock 21SF w/TLR1
150 mm
2 lbs 10.5 oz
1 lbs 13 oz

Glock 21SF
150 mm
2 lbs 6 oz
1 lbs 8 oz

Glock 30SF
150 mm
2 lbs 0 oz
1 lbs 5.5 oz

Colt GC Hogue grips (OE Stock)
141.5 mm
2 lbs 10.5 oz
2 lbs 3 oz

Colt GC USN Magpul grips
133.5 mm
2 lbs 10.5 oz
2 lbs 3 oz

Colt GC Texas grips (made of pewter)
139.5 mm
3 lbs 0.5 oz
2 lbs 5.5 oz

There were a couple of things I was surprised at finding. The weight of the fully loaded Colt with the Hogue and Magpul grips and fully loaded Glock with the TLR1 were identical. Also that the circumference of the Hogue grip was 2mm larger than Texas grips. I knew the USN grips would be the thinnest. I was also surprised at how much larger the Glock grip is compared to the Colt with either of the grips.

When considering the weight it's also fair to note that there is, of course, a 5 round difference between the G21(14) and the Colt(9). Thus the difference in the empty weights versus the fully loaded weights.

So, there it is FYI. If anyone else would like to check theirs out and post here that might be helpful to someone or just interesting to know. I thought about also measuring the grip thickness from front to back and side to side and LOP, but couldn't find my calipers to make the measurements. If I find them I will add those.
