That's the way I use my P290RS extended magazines. The adapter has a way of sliding into any old position on the magazine body and worse, if during a reload, you push on the adapter in seating the magazine, it won't lock the magazine home reliably due to play between the grip adapter and the magazine. You have to push on the magazine base itself, and that's not always easy to remember in the heat of the moment.
I've found it better to get rid of that potentially fatal (to me) design flaw and just use the magazine itself.
