AK Pistol to SBR (using a gunsmith)

Post by Beiruty »

First time I do this an AK Pistol to SBR via a gunsmith so bare with me:

I am doing the NFA registration as individual. Adding the stock is done by JBI Armory.

1) I send JBI Armory the M85 AK Pistol (whole or otherwise, JBI would specify) with Magpul side folder Zukhov-S along with the Gunsmith Fee Payment.
3) I file Form 4 for NFA with BATFE with $200 payment. I Send (Form 4) for the local LE chief notification. I still need the JBI's FFL info as Transferor to be filed with Form 4.
4) I will wait until I got my approval and then JBI Armory will ship me the completed SBR.

Is that correct?

Keep your firearm till your form gets approved, then get the work done, in my opinion. I am not sure when you give CLEO notification, I would think after it is approved.

but you can definitely keep it (in the non-nfa configuration) until the form is approved. There is no problem with that. You should be filling out a form 1, as you will be "making" the SBR, even though an outside vendor is doing the work, they do not own or manufactured the firearm originally.
