I have been a fan of 1911s for many years. A while back I thought I'd give the striker-fire type gun a whirl. Now, I know looks ain't everything, but hey, if I'm gonna spend money on something I don't want it to make me cringe every time I look at it. After browsing the styles on the web I found that the Ruger SR series didn't look too bad. I came to where I would seriously try the SR45 (45ACP.) I wanted to handle one before I bought it. Me and Mrs went to Abilene and I dropped her off at her shoppin' spot. I went to a couple gun shops...and called a couple of more. I couldn't find anyone who had it in stock. But I did find the SR9...same model but in 9mm. Though I'm partial to 45ACP I did think about it. It felt good in the hand. I stopped in at Academy and they had the 9e version...basically an SR9 but with a tiny amount of differences. They also had it on sale for $329. I looked at it...then picked up the wife and took her to another shopping spot. I sat in the car...shopped around on my phone...though about it...then I texted her and told I was going back to Academy. I bought the 9e and a box ammo...got out for around $380.

I only had time to put one mag through it...17 rounds. It felt and fired good. Accurate.
I typically carry the Remington 1911 Carry Commander. I thought I'd compare the two.

Though the Ruger is technically longer than the Commander, if you figure in the beavertail it isn't...it's about the same length. The slide is only a tiny bit wider, and the grip is about the same. The Ruger is lighter, which also felt nice. The striker-fire trigger was easy to use. The only thing I didn't care for was how the thumb safety felt...sort of flat and awkward to find...but I reckon with practice you can adjust to it.
