King County using customer grocery store data to target pet owners, send licensing notices

Turns out for the last four years, King County has been using data companies to target specific taxpayers, or in this case pet owners. That means every time customers swipe those rewards cards, they're gathering data.

Yet another reason I don't use "loyalty" cards, and I don't patronize stores that require them.

I don't use them either and when they ask me I just say that I don't have one and don't want one. Many times they scan one they keep at the register.

It's amazing how far we've come in such a short time. Private Citizens used to enjoy the Privacy of being a Citizen in these United States and we kept a very close eye on Public Servants. It's been flipped upside down and now we don't have a clue what our Government is doing at most levels and they know every single aspect of our lives.

I used to live in King County. My family still does. I'm not pleased. You'll note the article said the county was PAYING the company that manages the data. They are spending taxpayer dollars to spy on the taxpayers. How absolutely bereft of morals.

I found out years ago that my city uses google maps and or earth to view peoples' back yards or property to see if they've made any improvements without getting permits and then going after them with fines for not getting the permits and upping the property values by either demanding they inspect or just guestimataing the value increased.

As a friend of mine who lost his tort against Guadalupe/Blanco River Authority for destroying his property says; "Government has become King". He took it all the way to the Texas Supreme Court.

I've been paying my sin taxes in cash for years, for just this reason.
Liquor store? Cash.
Occasional cigar? Cash.

All the fast food is actually for my kids, so, they/I use the card for most of that.
Although the diet lemonade at Chick-fil-A is pretty awesome.

I pay a veterinarian for a tag, that he keeps on file. Do you have to have a license to own a dog? I didn't submit to a background check, but then I didn't go through FDD (Federal Dog Dealer)

I don't see the problem as long as they're collecting more from scofflaws in license fees and fines than they're spending on enforcement.

Yes, if they had to, a better law would have been to simply require all pets be vaccinated and keep proof of that handy when outside or on city property. Then they could still issue fines for failure to get the vaccinations without the oppressive licensing requirement.

Maybe they could do a dog buy back to get dangerous dogs off the streets and away from criminals.

Do they have a maximum capacity for puppies carried by a female dog? Nobody needs more than ten puppies.
