Kimber CDP - Recommend Me Some Ammo Please

Post by dihappy »

Been trying to find some fairly inexpensive ammo with proven and tested results.

I dont want to have to order Corbon's DPX id like to just be able to pick some up at my local gun shop.

What have u guys read about good .45 ammo and which have had the best results out of a Kimber Ultra CDP II?

Thanks

I was carrying DPX in my Ultra CDP until I had a problem with some Corbon ammo and decided to switch.

For a little over a year I have been carrying the Winchester Ranger RA45T (not +P) in all my 45's. My little Kimber gobbles it up.

I carry Hornady TAP in my Ultra CDP. It has been very reliable ammo at the range.

Just what Highvelocity and ScubaSigGuy said. I do however lean more towards the Windchester Rangers.

+1

This is what I put in my daughter's 9mm. It feed everything we tried in it, but grouped best with this ammo.

For a carry gun, reliable cycling is paramount. Cost, ease of purchase, etc. are secondary. If you ever need to use the gun, you don't want it to hang up after the first shot. That could get you killed.

All guns, especially 1911 pattern types, are different in subtle ways - even the same make and model. You will never know what cycles reliably in your gun without actually running some test ammo through your gun.

This can be a long process. You'd want to run 100 or more rounds of a given type through it to see how many stoppages you get (should be zero).

Results someone else got with their gun have no bearing on the results you will get with your gun.

If this all sounds like too much work, trouble, or expense, get a good revolver for carry and use the Kimber for IPDA matches.

Thank you so much guys!

Ill give the Winchesters and Hornady a try.

I think there are some new Ranger T's out that have incredible expansion of over 1" in .45, but will need to check for good feeding on it as well.

You might want to check out the Gold Dot short barrel load. I've heard some good things about it.

:iagree:

They work flawlessly in my Ultra Carry and Ultra CDP...Well over a thousand rounds in each without a flaw and that's during real practice...weak hand, strong hand, pistol canted, low light drills, etc.

I still carry Corbon DPX. Never had a problem with them and from all the reports I have read, they appear to penetrate well and mushroom consistently.
