I guess my safe space is a DIY project

Post by treadlightly »

Orlando creates safe spaces, assuming a sticker does the trick, for certain citizens - http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/pul ... story.html

I have spent many decades looking for bigotry in my soul. It's lazy thinking and against policy in my skull.

But a sticker proclaiming a safe space isn't as compelling as Sam Colt's idea of equality, and if you're going to go nutso for safe spaces, why offer them only to a subset of the citizenry?

Hopefully we're headed for an era that won't confuse meaninglessness with leadership any more.

Arm the law abiding. Declare the streets unsafe places for predators. Save the cost of printing stickers.

The "safe space" I'd welcome is one free from Political Correctness or any of it's spin offs...

While I agree with your sentiment about safe "spaces" , I don't think the "Safe PLACE" story you referenced is quite the same thing.

Safe spaces implies limits on speech and fragile snowflake freedom from being offended.

Safe Places, per the article, is a program intended to provide physical safety from/following an attack. Why object to that?

I object because it isn't for everyone. If private citizens wanted to get together and setup something like this I'd be fine with it. If it is going to cost tax dollars it should include everyone.

I'm not on a warpath, I'm just sort of shaking my head, as they say on that facebook thing. I may be wrong, but the Orlando safe spaces, er, places, may be hardened with no more than a rainbow sticker and good intentions.

Difficult to see what makes those places so safe, and while the stickers aren't hateful, there is a tinge of exclusivity to them.

What about a "safe space" for me and mine when leftist radicals loot and burn in the streets?

Are there "safe spaces" for Conservatives when the great unwashed decide to riot?

Oh right, only the whiny, vocal minority rate them...

There are no safe places, only safer places.

My safe space (or place) is behind my shotgun or AR-15. Image

I also have a smaller safe space behind my EDC. :fire

Pawpaw,

Once again, I get to spray coffee all over my monitor and keyboard!

Yes, but, but, but protecting/defending themselves isn't for everyone. Doing so is yucky...

Some are certain "others" have the responsibility of defending them, heaven forfend they even attempt to take care of themselves.

Some are claiming to be a safe space for criminal illegals, does that count??

How about a safe space where Trump supporters arent called racists???? That would be nice!
