4" 9mm 1911 w/ ambi safety - recommend?

Post by Scott B. »

Need a 4" 1911 in 9mm, but it must have an ambi safety, for a friend.

What do you recommend / have experience with?

Thanks,

Budget???

For Carry, or other use?

Is weight a consideration?

As a lefty and a 1911 guy-

I would not buy any particular 1911 because it had an ambi... most factory installed ambi's are junk. Buy the gun that's right /best for him and have the ambi safety (Wilson BP is my preference) installed.

Now onto your question- budget recommendation Springfield Range officer Compact (or champion) depending on frame size preference. IMO this is the best deal under $1k. Over $1k, set a budget then we can really help him spend it!

I have a Citadel 1911 in 9mm.
No ambi safety and it weights more than '69 VW Beetle but, it's been reliable every range trip and it's fun and accurate to shoot. Best of all, it cost me less that $400.

On the flip side, Nighthawk Custom has some really nice models in a 4.25 inch barrel. Of course, those will run you around $3,000 or so.

It really is difficult to give useful info without knowing budget :???:

He's a shooter, so it won't be a safe queen. His request for the 4" vice 4.25", and 9mm. I think takes care of weight and concealment (let's say that's a given). Price let's say up to Kimber/Dan Wesson level - definitely not Wilson level. :fire

On two ends of the spectrum I've considered:

Springfield 1911 EMP 4” Lightweight Champion

Kimber Pro CDP

Something in that range.

I've run across the Citadel name, have no experience with them. How's the fit and finish?

EMP is a good looking gun. I also like the looks of the Contour (v-bob) version.

Ouch - new requirement, must accept full size 9mm 1911 mags. EMP won't.

And what is the basis for this new "requirement"? :headscratch
