Spikes Tactical Nickel Boron trigger group vs. ALG ACT

The trigger in my S&W M&P 15-22 is not absolutely terrible, but after putting roughly 500 rounds through it, it's still not smoothed out as much as I had hope it would.

I don't want to spend a lot of money for a super high quality trigger, but I'm going to be get something better than the stock trigger, so I'm looking at a Spikes vs ALG ACT.

They're both in same neighborhood in cost, roughly $65.00 each.

Do any of you have either trigger or even better have experience with both and can recommend one over the other?

The Spike's Tactical Nickel Boron Single Stage ST Battle Trigger Set SLA01BT seems to have a lot going for it for the cost, but maybe the ALG ACT is better...?

Anyone know?

I have an ALG ACT trigger. I like the trigger and I find it has really little creep if any before your against the wall with the lighter spring (I have not tried the heavy spring).

I can't give you any comparison to anything though. This my only AR15 and I build it with a lower parts kit that had no trigger and this is the only trigger I have used.

I know one of these choices is the best, but I just don't know which one.

Not to derail your thread, but what are your overall impressions on the gun?

I was thinking about getting one for my 8 year old son to shoot, and also for me to use as a plinking gun. I am mainly worried about reliability and accuracy, in that order.

The truth is, unless you're looking at $200+ triggers, you'll get some improvement from one of the above mentioned triggers, but it won't be anything like a match-grade trigger. It may be very slightly lighter and crisper than the OEM, but not the kind of eye-opening glass rod you'd get from a 3 lb single stage $237 Timney AR Competition Trigger, or a 2 lb/2.5 lb 2-stage $240 Geissele Super Tri-Con Trigger. Considering that you can make some very noticeable improvements to an OEM AR trigger for free, just by adjusting spring tensions and maybe a light stoning job to certain parts, it may well be worth your time and effort to exercise some YouTube-fu to see what's up before spending the money. You might even find some reviews of the trigger systems you're actually considering at this point. Heck, if you mess up the OEM trigger while trying to improve it, then you're only out the money you would have to spend on one of the aftermarket systems you're already looking at.

I know this wasn't asked of me. My two cents worth say, you can't go wrong with the Ruger 10/22, unless you just want something in the AR style.

My overall impression is it's an excellent rifle.

I've shot 3 brands of ammo shooting this rifle: CCI, Blazer and Winchester M-22 and all shot without a hiccup, i.e., zero stove pipes, zero fail to eject.

I mounted a red dot sight and find the accuracy quite good, if not a tack driver.

I have Geissele's on 2 Colt AR's and absolutely love them, but don't care to spend the money for another or equal. I fully appreciate the trigger improvement will only be "somewhat" improved with a lower cost trigger like the ALG ACT.

Smoothing up the stock trigger is something I've considered, but lean to simply spending ($59.00) I found the ALG trigger for yesterday, no tax, no freight cost. I just don't have the patience to work on smoothing out a trigger...

Palmetto State Armory has an upgraded trigger they call their EPT: Enhanced Polished Trigger. Its usually on sale for $30 or so and is a good bang fro the buck upgrade over stock triggers. IT would compare favorably with the triggers posted in the OP but at a much more reasonable price.
