I'm 20 years old and won't be 21 until March.
I cannot legally purchase a handgun until I'm 21... but is it legal, under the new law, for me to carry a handgun in my truck, completely concealed, right now?
The CHL will be obtained when I turn 21... but I'd like to have a handgun ready in case it becomes necessary before then.
Legal or not? A good idea or not?
Thanks in advance. :)

As far as I can tell (and everyone else who has discussed this issue extensively), there is no age restriction in the car-carry law.BShook wrote:... but is it legal, under the new law, for me to carry a handgun in my truck, completely concealed, right now?
If you search for HB 1815, you can find the discussions.
Only you can decide whether it's a good idea for you. There's an outside chance that the police are not going to understand this law.
Drive carefully in any case.

I think you run a risk of getting busted and then having to wait 5 years for your CHL.
Get a shotgun and put it in your truck until you turn 21 and obtain your CHL.
Better safe than sorry. I think you can legally own and have a shotgun in your car if you are 18 (but double check that just to be sure).
