Of interest to us, they have an NRA Summer Program. This breaks out most of the subject matter into 5-day classes. 2017 course list below. They have a machine shop to die for, with 32 lathes. Those classes are capped at 32 and they turn people away every year.
We took the 1911 Armorer class. This ran 4 days, and it was very informative. I thought I knew my way around a 1911, but I learned new and useful things every day. We covered everything from disassembly to trigger jobs. Everyone brings their own guns to work on. The instructor, John Tremblay is an active gunsmith, as are all the instructors.
Cost: $300 for any 1-week course. You may also have to buy some tools specific to the class.
Lodging: You can rent a room in the campus dorms for $50/night, which includes 3 meals per day. It is walking distance to the classrooms.
All in all very much worth the time and money. I expect I'll be taking a course or two every year.
