Ameriglo Front Sights and Black Rear Sights

Post by Crash »

I recently bought a Glock 43 with an Ameriglo front night sight and plain black (no outline or dot) rear sight. My first impression is that at night I would want some kind of "glowing" rear sight to outline the front sight so I would know which way the barrel was pointed. However, a local firearms instructor told me that he preferred a plain black rear sight as they did not distract from the front night sights. As these front sights are a bright orange ring surrounding the green dot sight, I suppose he might be correct for daytime use as you would (probably) automatically focus on the bright front sights and place them in the notch in the rear sight, even though the rear sight would not be in perfect focus. However, as stated, I would think that at night I would want some kind of bright rear sight (dots, a bar, or U-shaped as on the original Glock rear sight) to ensure that I didn't have the front sight, and thus the barrel, skewed off to one side or the other.

What say ye? And, if you agree with me, what kind of rear sight would you suggest?

Thanks,

I think it is a personal preference. I have 3 handguns with black rear sighte and different kind of front sights, white dot and 2 green fiber optic front sights. I am more accurate with this setup as I am with colored rear sights. BTW, the standard Glock bucket rear sight is the worst in my opinion.

OP.. How do you like the Pro-Glo Orange front sight?
I'm considering the Yellow version of the same.

I agree that the blacked out rear sight is a personal preference.. I don't think I'd like it, but, would like to give it a try. Some folks prefer it.

Both of my carry all the time Glock 17s have Sevigny Carry Rear Sights and Green Tritium Dot Front Sights. I will probably put a similar setup on my Glock 43 in the near future.

I prefer all black sights, I find three dot tritium sights too busy, so a black rear and a tritium dot front is a good happy medium for me for both precision and fast acquisition in low light.

Many of mine have fiber front and plain rear. I like how it draws my eyes to the front sight. These are mostly on competition pistols. I did add a couple Glock 19s to the family a couple of years ago. I've never liked the stock Glock sights and stumbled across the Ameriglo CAP sights. The front is a greenish/yellow that shows well in the daylight but is also a night sight. The rear is plain although has "paint" in the "crotch" of the rear that also has some night glow capability. They make the model GL-614 and 624. They are the same but 624 has narrower front sight which is great for my older eyes.

Interesting... I would expect to have trouble finding the rear sight notch in the dark on a black rear sight. No?

Must try.

I think in a real situation (a threat in your home) you may not have time to perfectly aim.
Exercise in a dark environment I. e. lights out at the inddor range will give you the practical experience and self confidence for a situation like that.

My G43 was the TALO edition, and it came with a Trijicon HD front sight (Orange) and a plain v-notched rear sight. I like those Trijicon HD sights, and have front/rear sets on two of my other pistols. On the G43, the TALO sights work fine for the ranges at which a pocket pistol is likely to be used.

RoyGBiv,

I like the Ameriglo front sight with the green tritium inside the orange ring just fine. I shot yesterday at an indoor range and got 2" groups offhand at 7 yards, shooting at what I call "timed fire," i.e., as soon as the gun came down out of recoil (and there's not much) and I had a reasonable sight picture I fired again.

I would check out the XS BIG DOT site. By the way, I prefer the smaller front sight they offer. With a little practice they are very quick acquiring your target.
