Winchester Range, Fort Worth

Post by texas297 »

I'm thinking of going over to Winchester Range to throw some lead down range with my new XD.

Having never been there I have a quick question for anyone here who might of. Does the range fee include targets, or are they extra?

Also, are the folks that work there friendly? Or at least friendly then the jerks at Alpine. I take that back, it's been years since I've been to Alpine they might have some newer people there that have customer service skills.

Thanks

Winchester Gallery has good guys. Their range fee includes targets. I believe you can come back to the front desk and grab more.

Which side of Fort Worth are you at? You might try Elk Castle on the west side (I-30/Cherry Lane). They are a few bucks cheaper and the range is under tighter control. There are less chances of having some unsafe freak shooting next to you.

Well I'm up north but on the way to the Harley store on the west side of town so I may stop in and give them a try. Thanks for the tip.

I live just a few blocks from Elk Castle. The people there are very nice. The range requires factory ammo, so I shoot at On Target.

Hey, anyone know why the Rock Creek range in Joshua closed? I loved that place.

No, Alpine is still severely lacking in the customer service dept. They also seem to have a thing for hiring punk teenagers for range officers - long story short, I wont ever go there again.

The weekend range fee at Winchester is $15.00 for unlimited time and includes 1 target. Extra targets are $2.00 for CHL type targets.

Im not sure about weekdays but they open at 9 am on the weekends. Get there bright and early or plan on waiting a long time to get a lane, especially the rifle lanes.

And yes, the guys at Winchester are all really friendly.

Happy Shooting :patriot:

Winchester is a great range and a little lax on rules and regulations. One target is free, but they have several cheap ones for sale and half the time they don't charge you for them.

Also, don't tell anyone else or it gets too busy, but on Tuesday and Thursday nights after 5:00 it is only $8.50 to shoot ($12 on weekdays). I think that the second person (in the same lane) is only half price.

As for the lines, it's all just luck of the draw. Sometimes I am the only person there, and other times its packed. I've never had to wait for a lane though. (I don't use the rifle range).
