Under the nose of the anti's
I tried an experiment yesterday evening. Had a nephew, his wife, & 14 yr old son here from Iowa yesterday for the afternoon & spend the night before going on to Houston for Iowa State - TCU game. I did not disarm when I came in, removed my vest & life as normal. I made the decision to remain armed at the house per a discussion here a couple of months ago. (Thanks guys
) & I was going to leave for another family visitation at funeral home in about 2 hours. They are quite "anti". I thought, "I am going to see how observant they are. My carry is a Kimber Compac in Don Hume IWB at 3:30. No HOGLEG but definately no mouse gun either. I even carry an 8 rd mag in it that protrudes the one extra round. Two hours, standing around visiting, really very mobil for the whole time. They have never seen Deep East Texas Native Pines. We have several. Wanted to see the 3 blown over oak tree stumps from Rita. (big) I may have been seated 15-20 minutes during the whole time. Stood while eating w/ grandbabies at the table. They never noticed. The only ones who knew were my Mom & Wife who know that is normal. My 6 yr old grandson saw it & took a long look. He also knows it is normal. Folks really don't pay attention to what you wear as long as it is not out of character. For the Kids, what is normal draws no attention. This was a fringe benefit of reinforcing what we all really know. Kids that are taught when they ask, have their curiosity satisfied, are allowed to see, handle, & learn to use & respect them, don't pay them undue attention. Thought I would pass it on. Anyone else ever try it & what results?[/i]

longtooth,
Did you have any cover garment on at all, or was the pistol and IWB holster just there in the open?
I think I posted once about going to the cat show at the Geroge Brown, in Houston, which was 30.06 posted at the time. Rode with three of the cat ladies and had asked the driver, quietly beforehand, if I could leave my CZ in her car when we got there. I was able to unholster, remove slide stop, and put it under the seat (I was in the backseat behind the driver) with no one noticing; and retrieve the pistol, reinsert the slidestop, and reholster upon returning to the car to leave. Many people are self absorbed enough they will not notice anything short of flashing lights and klaxtons.
Regards,
Andrew

No cover garment. Took off my vest & was in a long sleeve shirt. I too have disarmed many times w/ people very close to the vehicle. As the driver I have removed the DH IWB & put it in my lock box w/ no notice. It is a little harder to rearm w/o being noticed.
This morning I armed as normal, did my computer work, we all ate breakfast, sat at the table this morn. Sitting and attending these are really hard to notice an arm. We loaded up their car, & still no notice. Longsleeve shirt, tucked in & carry at 3:30. No cover. This morning the only precaution I reall took was not putting anything in the trunk FOR THEM. Bending over the trunk w/ him or her behind me would have been too much. I handed things to them, helped carry out, went to the garage for trash bag for her to use for dirty clothes. Nothing. You are right about the flashing lights... just look at how long some trafic stops take. Now, I still don't want to try it in public.

Longtooh is dead on with his assertiion that if you act normal most people never notice. I Have open carried in PA during my travels and most folks really do not care.

anygun, I believe the principle also applies to those who believe there is a "shoot me first" vest, coat, NRA hat, Jacket.... Folks who live in fairyland don't see the bad guys nor the good guys. Likewise the bad guys are so intent on the crime & intended victim that they are not aware of who or what is around them. The principle applies to both. My two cents & probably worth about half that.
