Tent Cities - I See Them Discussed More and More On TV

Post by Abraham »

Primarily, I see them being filmed and discussed in Los Angles, but per the tv folk, they're popping up in other liberal cities like Seattle, Chicago, etc.

When/If they move into the country, what would you do if you woke up one morning to discover some homeless had decided to tent camp in your yard, filling it with trash and sewerage?

Perhaps, then to knock on your door begging for food, bathroom, shower, money, clothes or plain decide to give you a butt chewing for you living so well and them not...

In the various cities, this tent city problem is worsening day by day and yet nothing seems to be done beyond looking the other way...

If when something is finally done, like running them off - will they be in your yard next?

I'll ask again, what would you do when they've decided to live in your yard?

Tell them to move along.

If they don't, call the SO because they're trespassing.

Why do you ask?

Build a fence. Get some dogs. Let the dogs loose in your fenced yard. If anyone threatens your dogs on your property, then defend your dogs.

I like those responses.

Keep em coming.

Why do I ask...because as improbable as it may seem now, once the hordes are finally made to leave the cities (and they will eventually) what alternative do they have but to come to the country - possibly on your property.

Were not speaking of a few people, but thousands and thousands of these tent city type dwellers. Some simply down on their luck, some quite crazy and a slew of low life criminals.

Sure you say, it'll never happen where I live. I hope you're correct.

I can tell you, where they're camped now, had you asked a gainfully employed/retired person five/ten years ago, if a rotten tent city was in the future in their part of the world... they'd of scoffed at the very notion.

I'm picturing hordes of homeless folks walking onto my property. I think the tactics from "The Walking Dead" might be effective here. Comparing the two threats, the bad news is that these homeless hordes have the ability for limited levels of advanced thinking. But the good news is that their bite will not cause you to become one of them, and their numbers are at least a bit limited unlike the seemingly endless waves of "walkers".

All the more reason to keep a decent supply of ammo and replenish before you get to dangerously low levels like 50 or 60 thousand rounds.

The hideous mess they make, frightening long time residents, who have to carefully walk/tiptoe around them is honestly something the locals who belong there are having to do and are sick of having to do so.

Most probably the locals have had a lot of initial sympathy for the plight of these wretches, but seeing the homeless population eventually not only not leave, (as no doubt the locals expected) but increase will eventually call for cries of: "Get em out'!

Either the cops or the military (yes, it'll justify many cops/military) will have to use water cannons, truncheons for militant resisters, tear gas and what have you to get these pariahs out of their neighborhoods.

Guess where they'll come next...?

The key is to practice zero tolerance. Despite the fact that we may have compassion for the homeless, tresspassing is a serious crime that will only grow if not immediately addressed.

We have 68 acres of green space in our HOA and we regularly survey for signs of homeless tresspassing. If we find an occupied camp, we call the police and as the police in Dallas have been rendered powerless to remove these tresspassers unless the owner of the property is prepared to press charges, our property manager has authorization as our agent to file a criminal tresspassing complaint.

If we find an unoccupied campsite on our property, we have our maintenance contractor dismantle and discard all of the tresspassers trash, since it has been left on our property illegally and therefore is ours to do with as we see fit.

Over the Christmas 2017 week we discovered a homeless camper who was also in possession of burglary tools. The police removed him just before some very dangerous bad weather set in. Many of these homeless folks suffer from various mental health issues and so it is important to make sure that the proper authorities are aware and involved in these situations.

:iagree: Zero tolerance for trespassing.

I have empathy for these people, I understand they have a tough situation. Many are there due to no fault of their own. Most are there of their own choosing due to bad choices repeated often. Whatever their reason, society does not have to tolerate the abuse of private property owners by the homeless.
After all, that's the government's job (abusing private property owners).

Bitter Clinger,

Obviously, you have some experience with this phenomenon.

I have a very large yard.

Were I to find tent campers on it, my immediate response would be to call Law Enforcement as they are trespassers. I don't work with mowing, and all the other work efforts I labor at, to keep up my property for a bunch of bums to use. Heck, I spent the whole day yesterday, my wife too, who in her own way did more work than me, for these cretins to enjoy while she and I work to keep it up with cleaning and re-staining my deck, mowing my yard, herbiciding where necessary...

No, tent homeless dwellers don't get to share...we aren't commies...

If my efforts to rid myself of them proved to be ineffective, dogs and other methods would disperse them...

I don't live in LA or San Francisco nor will I be forced to adhere to the so-called homeless, which generally comprise low lifes, from crazies to criminals. Nope, no way, no how...

These people are in these cities because the city govt tolerates them and gives them free services. I really doubt the local politicians there will change their spots very soon. I am sure they don't live near where these homeless are staying.

MechAg94,

Yeah, much like Rosie O'Donell vociferously championed their cause. "Gosh, those poor darn homeless and their awful plight..."they need help.

Then, one morning she discovered they were tented in her back yard.

She, immediately had her armed guards roust them out.

It's just fine for the 'elite' wealthy to espouse sympathy for the homeless, but you the peasantry (precising meaning you, shmuck) should take them in, but not her highness...she's above all that...paging Marie Antoinette...

I think of homeless as a person who through no fault of their own has become impoverished, lost all finances to have a shelter to live in, etc. These people I truly feel sorry for and would like to help. Women with children that have left their homes because of abuse are another example, etc.

But, this is not what most of the "homeless" are. Most are drug dependent, mentally unsound, and criminal. They go where the weather is decent and where the government does nothing to dissuade them. They are a filthy and dangerous blight on society. At least in Texas I think the trespass laws would be enough to get them off your property. You would have to post or tell them verbally to leave.

The last time I was in San Francisco I had to step over this human trash next to some of the richest buildings. What can you expect from areas that encourage sanctuary status?

It's in Dallas and fort worth as well. So far as them moving out to the country, it would be very odd to see happen. The country life lacks in resources to eat and wash up in. There are no gas station restrooms and no McD dumpsters to eat from. There's no source of income from collecting cans or a large source traffic source to panhandle.
So the odds of a tent city showing up is low on private lands. If someone were to show up, it would most likely be someone(s) looking for trouble. Those people dont want involvement with the law and will most likely move on when confronted.

One more reason why we enjoy our lives in a rural hamlet without all of the benefits a megalopolis has to offer.
