EDC revolver?

Post by LDB415 »

I'm debating adding a revolver that I could EDC. I've got a J-frame and considering something a small step up from that, maybe 2.5-3 inch barrel and more than 5 shots. One suspect is the Kimber K6S and another is the Performance Center PRO 640 although it is only 5 shots. Looking for suggestions on other options to consider up to around G19 size overall.

My favorite revolver that meets your description is a S&W Model 19 (or 66) 2.5". You would have to buy used and they aren't cheap on GunBroker.com. Very few were made with 3" barrels, but they are as scarce as an honest Democrat. I really like those guns.

Another option for you might be the Ruger GP100 series. Nice actions and well made. https://ruger.com/products/gp100/models.html

Here is mine! As Mr. Cotton said they are hard to come by. As Keith mentioned above you might look at a Ruger SP101.

SP101s can have 3” barrels. The .327 Federal version is six shot, but I prefer 5 shot .357 Magnum with 3” barrel as my primary.

My wife recently replaced her Ruger LCR .38 with a Walther PPS M2 LE. I'm using the Ruger to backup my S&W M&P M2.0 9mm 5inch until I can get better BUG.

I'd like to have a 3" option but I'm not sure about an OAL problem. For my carry option I'm limited to about 7-1/3 inches OAL. The Glock 19 overall dimensions are about it. I may need to seriously debate the K6S and the 640 Pro since they both have significantly better sights. I appreciate the input so far. It is welcome and useful.

That video seems to only apply to single action only revolvers. All the ones mentioned in this thread are double/single action.

What I dislike most about my Tanfoglio BTA90 is the double action/single action. Different trigger manipulation for the first round and all subsequent rounds. One of the things I like most about my Ruger LCR .38 is the consistent trigger manipulation. Double action only. Yes, it is long and hard and requires more practice to shoot well than my striker fired S&W M&P, but it is consistent. That is why, when I chose to carry a revolver, I carry a double action only revolver. Works for me. Your mileage will vary.

Bought a SP101 for my wife. Put a CT laser grip on it.

I would also recommend the SP 101. This is my choice when I want my primary carry to be a revolver, which is admittedly rare. It is built like a tank and .357 magnum rounds are not an issue, recoil wise. If you really need 6 rounds, then you could go with a GP 100 instead.
