I titled the thread what I figured the article should have been titled!Debt from unpaid lunches grew from $13,910 to $356,000 in a single school year.
Last August, Denver Public Schools (DPS) unveiled a new school-lunch policy: It promised that all students would be given a full hot meal every day regardless of any outstanding debts.
...
To the apparent surprise of everyone in K–12 schooling — but no one outside it — it turns out that there really is no such thing as a free lunch. Education news site Chalkbeat Colorado recently reported that debt from unpaid lunches exploded during the 2017–2018 school year. It grew more than 25-fold, to $356,000, up from $13,910 the year before.

I would have gone with "Socialism in one school," but I am a bit of a history buff and old to boot.

Are they really so stupid, that they don't understand why their debt, skyrocketed?
Why would anyone pay for lunch, if they weren't enforcing the rules?
Now the taxpayers, will pick up the bill, for a "free" lunch program, that will no doubt raise school taxes, which will in turn drive families, who would pay taxes, to other school districts, leaving behind low income families. Maybe they should hire someone who understands cause, and effect.

Socialism is great until the School District goes bankrupt. Who will the parents, teachers, and administrators blame then?

HISD (houston) is flipping the bill Providing everyone with free breakfast and lunch this year. 600,000 students total. But they’re firing more teachers and about to have several schools taken by the state due to lack of standards. But at least the kids get free lunch

I believe it was Margaret Thatcher that said Socialism works great until you run out of other peoples money!
Government, like fire is a dangerous servant and a fearful master

Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war let it begin here- John Parker

Sadly though, taxpayers will be paying the bill.
