New job and SMH moments.

Post by Grundy1133 »

So i started a new job recently. Along with new hire training they have us go thru "active shooter" training. basically there are "safe zones" that you can go and hide in. I couldn't help but shake my head in disbelief. the facility IS a 30.06 30.07 facility so idk why it astonished me how complete and utterly stupid they are. If it's a "weapons free" building then we shouldnt even be having active shooter training right? because the logic behind that is criminals will see the signs and turn around and go home... right? and not only that, their policy is garbage. basically its "run hide and wet yourself" i couldnt help but shake my head multiple times during the presentation. i think i even chuckled at the presenter when he said "we care about your safety and are doing everything we can". because first off if that was the case you'd not only take down those stupid 06 07 signs, but you'd hire some form of armed security detail to the facility instead of creating "safe rooms" so we can go and pee ourselves until the gunman decides to shoot us. what REALLY just made me wanna get up and walk out was they said to use "improvised weapons" to try and disarm the gunman... umm... if you'd let us carry our REAL WEAPONS or hire armed security, we wouldnt have to try to disarm a gunman with a stupid all point pen or a fire extinguisher... If there's an active shooter, I'm going out the door and going to my car where I (unfortunately) have to leave my gun and hang out there until the cops decide to show up (6-7 mins response time). it just irritates me when they say "we care about your safety" and "we're worried about saving lives" NO YOU'RE NOT! you're worried about being politically correct and so scared of offending anyone who is "Scared" of guns that you're willing to put all of your employee's lives at risk. I'm debating quitting honestly... if i didnt think my girlfriend would kill me, i woulda walked out today... One of the guys who works there is like minded. he's ex military and i was voicing my concerns and he told me "dude its okay. I know of literally 3 people who carry in the building anyway." I'm not one for breaking the law, but it's a TINY bit of comfort knowing that if there ever is an active shooter that there's 1 or 2 good guys with a gun... It is just astonishing how stupid people are when it comes to "active shooter training" My active shooter training was administered to me by the Texas DPS... Draw, Point, Shoot. end of story. That is all.... rant over.

I know what you mean. I work in a hospital that is posted with .06 and .07 signs and probably very similar "training."

For my chosen profession I just have to roll with it because that's the way it will be until I retire.

I would have asked the question "Since we have signs prohibiting carry in the building, why are we preparing for an active shooter?" and waited to see the response. If nothing else, may have opened the eyes to a few of the non-LTC people that signs do NOTHING to stop bad guys with bad intentions.

Oh trust me... I wanted to SO bad... but i really need this job (even tho as of today im looking for a new one) ive been unemployed for the past year so i cant afford to just call them out and possibly get fired because im "making waves". i had to bite my tongue SO hard... I had a lot of things I wanted to say and questions to ask but I decided to just keep my mouth shut and just shake my head at their stupidity... one of the questions was "If active shooters is such a big issue, how come there are 30-06 30-07 signs that prohibit law abiding legally licensed gun owners from carrying?" another was "If weapons are prohibited, wouldn't using 'improvised weapons' be against company policy?" another way "In my experience the fastest way to neutralize a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. At least it works for the cops and if it's good enough for them, I suggest we utilize their tactics." so many things i wanted to say... so much trouble i could have gotten in...

I understand the part about not making waves in order to keep your job, especially after being unemployed for so long. I would have simply asked it just as I posted above. I wouldn't have even brought up "licensed carriers". Just a simple logic question to me.

I was thinking that too as I read your OP... I may have actually asked it to seem as if I was more worried about my job than my life. Just to prove a point
