Their discomfort likely comes from having been told too many times that they are safer with no guns allowed at the school. What they don't get is that the policy only stops those who are willing to follow it.Some South Medford students say they are uncomfortable with the idea of a teacher carrying a gun, especially since they cannot bring even scissors to school.
"I totally understand she wants to protect herself," said Lauren Forderer, 16, a junior. "But I don't agree she should bring her problems around 2,000 other people."
And to Ms. Lauren Forderer, I would point out that I'm pretty certain that Ms. Katz has no desire to bring or have her problems brought to the school, but that won't stop them (him) from coming there nearly as well as allowing her to bring her handgun would. The idea that her husband won't come after her at work because because she works at a school is laughable at best, and potentially deadly at worst.
BTW, I am not passing judgement on either Mr. Katz or Ms. Katz, or the truthfulness of his or her claims. I believe that unless there is adequate reason to revoke her CHL that she should be allowed to take her handgun with her (even to school).
