The 14-year-old freshman suspect was suspended earlier this week after getting into a fight with another student, several sources reported.

The shooting victims include a 57-year-old male, a 42-year-old male, a 17-year-old male and a 14 year-old male, Jackson said. A fifth person, a 14-year-old girl, injured her knee, he said.

Dang! Just what this country needs...MORE ammo for the anti-gunners

Tragic event..but I wonder if a "no gun" zone would have helped, I like to think it would have prevented it if teachers/administration people had a weapon onhand somehow

It happens because irresponsible people with children (especially teenage children who have very little control over their emotions during puberty) do not secure their weapons!

It can be stopped if they would just lock up the weapons as the law requires.
It can also be mitigated/stopped if we can get rid of the gun free zones (including schools).

CLEVELAND - A gunman opened fire in a downtown high school Wednesday before killing himself, and five people were taken to a hospital, authorities said.

Mayor Frank Jackson said three young people and two adults were hurt. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

Police said SuccessTech Academy had been secured and that the lone suspect had fatally shot himself.

He would have gotten them elsewhere..if he was that mental locking up every gun in the world wouldn't have prevented him from getting a knife....lock up all the knives, he would have gotten claw hammers.

When someone has the mental mindset to do something like that they WILL find a way

We don't know where the kid got the weapon.

This kind of thing happens because people raise kids with no conscience or impulse control, or sometimes people snap for no apparent reason. People with undiagnosed schizophrenia sometimes go on rampages.

If the gun belonged to the father of the shooter, he should be charged for failure to secure and accessory to murder.

I don't know what the laws ar in OH, but in TX he would be charged with something like failure to secure.

Accessory to murder is over the top. I do not believe that would happen under the laws of any state, nor should it.

If I were a newspaper editor, my headline would read, "Another Gun-Free Zone Breeched", or maybe, "Five Injured, and Once Again None of the Victims Had Guns".

If the anti-gun lobby is correct, this is a hoax because the gun-free school zone makes it impossible.

We need to either arm the law-abiding good guys...or start selling bulletproof vests to students and faculty when they buy their yearly school supplies.

When and where I grew up (and probably the same with a lot of folks on this forum) guns were never secured in homes - only in gun cabinets or racks that weren't locked.

We (students) brought guns to school and either left them in the gun racks in our trucks or brought them into the classroom. After school we would go shooting or hunting - never a problem with anyone.

Some where down the line the public got convinced that guns were evil and couldn't be brought to school. Heck, kids shouldn't even be around them. We are no longer a society where guns are not only accepted, but their owners are respected as responsible individuals.

Now we have problems with "unsecured" guns causing these problems - not the kids or adults that use them. Now I for one believe that guns should be secured to keep them from young children or to keep them from being stolen. I agree that times have changed but so has our society's value systems.

Well said. I too fondly recall having a gun in the car to go hunting after school. None of us ever gave a thought to using them on anyone in school.
