Natural History Museum, Houston

Did a search and didn't see a reference to this so thought I would update.

Weekend before last we went to the Natural History Museum here in Htown. I had a sneaking suspicion they would be posted so I left my gun in the car. We got to the door and I scanned for anything that said 30.06 on or around the entrance. There was nothing.

I was pleasantly surprised but didnt want to go all the way back up to the top floor of the parking garage just to get the .45 so we went in.

Daughter loved the butterfly exibit, but boy that places is $$$.

On the way out i noticed on the door there was some white lettering printed directly on the glass. When we go outside i took a closer look and it expressly forbid the possession of a weapon (licensed or not) and gave a legal code. No 30.06 anywhere in the message.

I have a photo but it hasn't been developed yet. When we get a chance I'll post the shot with the exact text.

Is anyone aware of something that would allow them to legally ban weapons without posting a 30.06?

You are referring to the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Hermann Park, right? I was there earlier this year and didn't notice any signage.

It's owned by the City of Houston and can't be posted. What you saw must be left over from Houston's futile efforts to post everything they own.

Interesting, maybe, but surprising, absolutely not. Houston/Harris County does not like the idea of legally armed citizens for some reason. So they try to fight it by fair means or foul, IMHO.

I think that clause is only for school grounds, but IANAL.

If they really want to fight dirty they would post 30.06. Most CHLers should understand that the only sign that restricts them is a proper 30.06 sign. Even though most CHLers would understand that a 30.06 is invalid on city property. It might not be clear to the casual visitor that this is indeed city property.

I went there for the first time and I didn't notice any signs, but i didn't look I knew it was city property and my handgun was well concealed.

I looked for it at the sugar exhibit and didnt see any signs. Upon leaving I looked back for the kid and saw the white letters on glass. Doesnt seem contrasting or obvious to me. But then again, it is city land so who cares.
