Interesting, funny yet sad but true E mail I was sent (I'm sure many in here have gotten other versions of this over the past few years) about how we used to view guns and other things and how we view them now.

I remember a classmate back in the 2cond grade flashing a realistic (those were the days
) water gun uzzie in his backpack during class. I don't think the teacher even noticed it, nobody thougth anything of it.
If she did notice, she probably would have either ignored it, said don't bring toys to school or taken it away for the day if it was causing distraction.
Today, he would be hauled off to jail and be examined by "professional" psychologists and grief counselars
, expelled from school, parents arrested and he would spend time in juvenile hall.
Y'all remember the story they did all day on FOX about a month back about the kid somewhere up in the northeast who got in trouble for drawing a picture or coloring a picture of what resembled a gun?
One must wonder what they think of boys using their thumb and index finger as a gun. PSHEEW!!!
Shoot, we'd be in jail for life if these people could see the things we were drawing back in elementary school. Whole battlefields and futuristic military bases being attacked on mountainsides by jet planes from the air and tanks from the ground, our favorite guns, robots shooting other robots, ninjas, etc.
When I have children, they will be nowhere near a public school. It is a mychildren free zone.

Its amazing how far our society has slipped in a few short years...can you imagine how bad it will be in another 30...when we are 60ish and our kids are our age now?
I also homeschool...there is too much indoctrination going on I DON'T agree with! Believe it or not..my kids couldn't go to pre-kindergarten because they couldn't speak Spanish!!!!

I was a child of the 60's and met adulthood in the 70s.
I watched citys burned all over the county.
I saw My President executed by some thug.
I saw is presidential wannabe brother killed on the news
I Saw a leader who preached peace and Brother hood killed because he preached peace and brotherhood
I remember a parttime student .. to poor to go full time. My Government told me go in the Military. or go to Jail. I did no wrong. I was just poor.
I remember losing 2 of my neighborhood play friends in Viet Nam
I remember supported my young family while my president imposed price freezes while we endured 17% inflation.
I Remember when it was illegal to carry a handgun to protect myself.
I remember polio scares.
I remember when the terrorists lived in this country,
I remember a liberal Supreme Court.
I remember an assault weapons ban
I Remember Carter
I remember gas lines.
I Remember the Iron Curtain, The Cold war.
I remember crying in joy as the Berlin wall came down.
While I don't like the way some things unfold in these times. I remember a sadder and more miserable world than the one we live in today. I pray my grand children will wax on about 5% unemployment, slow internet, and only a couple hundred cable channels. They might tell how awful it was that we were at war and losing 3 or 4 people a day in Iraq. Maybe they will be able to tell their children how we wouldn't allow teachers to carry.weapons. I hope they will be able to tell how the RKBA wasn't concidered an individual right and how the battle was won. I pray they will be able to tell their children how cancer and heart disease were so terrible.
I suppose its all about perception.

Back in the early 70's I can remember the Principal reminding everybody to keep their pick up locked when they had their shotguns in the rack in the back window.

In my senior year back in the 60's, we had a "western party" instead of a prom. It was held in the school cafeteria. The guys dressed up in western outfits, many had guns strapped to their hip. Most were toy, but there were a few real ones if you looked closely.
Doug .38PR's post about the kid taking using firecracker powder on ants reminds me of an incident in my junior year of high school. A friend made a cannon using metal pipe with the old "Greenie Stickem Caps" as the detenator for the gun powder which was packed in using toilet paper as packing. We took that "cannon" out in the country to try it out. After the first try resulted in just a "poof", my friend dumped a vast quantity of gun powder down the barrel. We hid behing his Jeep and pulled the cord and watched as the "cannon" exploded into pieces and flew over our heads and landed not far from us. In today's world, we would have been arrested and charged with some type conspiracy and spent years in jail.
