Got a new wheel gun to celebrate the memory of our fallen

Buddy of mine twisted my arm into buying a revolver. Figured today was as good a day as any, celebrating the life and service of those who never returned to us. I bought a S&W model 28-2 .357 Highway Patrolman.

Still trying to determine the manufacture date, but as I don't currently own any wheel-guns. This is a welcome addition!

I’ve got a 66-2, stainless 6 inch. Basically the same gun. I have ZERO complaints. Such a sweet and super accurate firearm. You chose well.

Yea out of the 6 or 8 he has I really chose between this and a Taurus Raging Bull .41 magnum. I've never liked Taurus even though I suppose their revolvers are ok. I went with the tried and true.

The Model 28 Highway Patrolman is a much larger revolver based on the "N" frame; the Model 66 is the stainless version of the "K" frame Model 19 Combat Magnum.

Very Nice. It has the pinned barrel and I assume recessed cylinder (P&R) . I think P&R's ended early 80's, so it was made prior to 1982. If you can provide the S/N letter prefix (S or N) and first 3 numbers I'll check my S&W book for manufacture date.

The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson with the caveat approximate dates lists N500000 as 1978-80* and N600000 as 1979-1980. The asterisk denotes that the majority of N500000 range revolvers were M28 and M58 and that after 1980 M28 S/N were all merged with other N frame S/N ranges. Confusing - I'd guess your gun was made in 1979. Where did you find your chart? Do you have a link.
Have you had a chance to take it to the range? General George Patton carried the more highly finished and polished version of the N frame .357, a Model 27. He called it his killing gun.

I haven't made it to the range yet, just bought it yesterday and had to go back to work after a long weekend. I'm gonna take it with my to my parents ranch this coming weekend, and I'll get to shoot it there.

Have fun! My S prefix Model 27 3½" was stolen in 1994. I found a 1977 3½" Nickle plated Model 27 w/ TT and TH a year or so ago and snapped it up. It was the presentation boxed version. Shoots exactly as I remember.
