My best friend called last week to see if I could play hookey today and go to the fair. My schedule was clear, so we did!
I don't know if it was because of the threat of rain today or if it's just the end of the run - but it was a good day to go. There weren't many people there until mid afternoon and by that time we were ready to leave.
Going in -- as we approached the security station, I had my CHL in hand to give to the lady with the wand. She didn't see that I had my CHL out and ready for her to view even though I was holding out in front of me.
I leaned in and said quietly "I'm carrying a handgun, here's my CHL"
She didn't hear, or wasn't listening and asked me, "What do you have that's setting this off? Do you have studs in your pockets?
I leaned in and said quietly -- still holding my chl for her to see - "It's a gun".
She said "What?"
I said, "It's a handgun",
she said "What?",
I said a little louder, "Its a gun" and tried to hand her my CHL again.
When she finally heard what I said, she jumped backward about 3 feet .
I said again "Here's my CHL", she looked at it and then as if she'd swallowed her tongue, waved me in.
The rest of the day was uneventful, it was HUMID this morning - pretty miserable. Till the sun came and burned the steam away. Then it was suddenly a really nice day to be outside.
My friend is in training for an upcoming 3 day walk for breast cancer and had a goal of walking 10 miles today. Ha! We only got in about 3 miles and I was WHOOPED!
OH MAN - we found homemade fudge. If you go -- you have to try the vanilla/chocolate fudge swirled together. Oh My GOODNESS! It was the best fudge I've ever had! I think it was in the exposition building (or the one directly across the street from it).
For a day at the fair, I guess we got off cheap! We had a $5 off coupon we got from the newspaper, then the lady at the ticket counter gave us another $5 dollar off coupon - so that saved us 10 bucks right off the bat. Between me and my girlfriend, we shared $30.00 worth of fair food. You'd think that might be a lot, but it was really only - 1 order of nachos, 1 fletcher's corn dog, 1 corn on the cob, 1 candied apple, 1 philly wrap, a bottle of water and 1 sprite.
Then we came home!

I wonder if they fry it? Seems like they will everything else!
