Big Town gun show

Post by wheelgun1958 »

I've attended the Big Town show for years and today is the first time I ever noticed the big 30/06 sign out front. The ticket takers swore it has been there for a couple of years but I always looked and never saw it before. I personally don't believe them. I informed them that if I was not there with family I would have left immediately. The guy at the table zip tying my Taurus was aghast that I was upset over the sign. His response was to the effect that "the show is full of people!" As if to say if you don't like it, stuff it. Well I say to them "stuff your show until the 30/06 sign comes down!" Several of the vendors were not aware of the sign as they enter a different door.

I get the biggest chuckle from 30.06 signs at gunshows. I'm very glad hardly anyone "non-gun" sees them. I mean, what kind of message is that sending that gun people don't trust gun people to carry concealed?!

The sign has been there for over a year.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

Never saw it outside. It has always been on right side, after you pay, but before you give the guy the ticket. You usually do not see it because you are looking to your left to give the guy the ticket.

I do not see how it is enforceable myself. You had a handgun, the guy gave it back to you and allowed you in. Thus you received "effective consent", and cannot be charged under 30.06. I mean, if CHL is not allowed to carry on or about your person, how do you buy one and walk out with it. I myself, do not carry under CHL at a gun show, so it is moot.

"Never saw it outside"

It's posted on the entry door as well as on an easel inside.

We are tired of AD's at our gun show? I have been present for 7 ADs over the past 10 years at DFW gun shows, it is a problem they cannot seem to solve.

It's a Gun show!

Ban the availability and sale of ammo and the problem is solved!

Believe them. It's been at least 5, maybe 7 years since I worked that show and they had "proper" 30.06 signs then. There is not necessarily a sign at vendor entrance because they sign separate paperwork recognizing that all guns are to be unloaded and tied. But all that still does not completely eliminate NDs.

Their sandbox for the weekend, their rules. Sounds like you ain't gonna be making many guns shows in DFW.

Seldom does a gun show pass without a CHL holder unexpectedly drawing a loaded gun and they too often sweep me with the muzzle. I dressed down one customer who surprised me with a loaded Kahr pointed at my face and his angry response was "I DIDN'T HAVE MY FINGER ON THE TRIGGER!"

That's such a relief.

Far too many CHL holders find reasons to unholster at guns shows and that's unfair to everybody present.

If you step back and look at things unslefishly and without emotion, you will see that it is reasonable for them to want ALL weapons entering the show empty and zip-tied.

My wife and I went to that show Saturday morning. We entered the building not packing. No big deal. I do understand the reasoning behind it.

I think it is like not having live ammo in the room if you are practicing dry firing. Very easy to just try one more draw after you have reloaded the gun.

It's a "Gun Show". There are guns everywhere. In that atmosphere it
is easy for some to break concealment and "show their gun", forgetting
it is loaded.

Just a thought.

I will not have dealings with any business that is posted. I jumped through the hoops and paid my 2nd amendment tax for a reason. If others cannot accept and respect that, they don't need my money.

my only issue with the whole thing is this: Who's going to "cover" me on my way to my truck/car/moped?
I completely understand, and am fine with the No Loaded Guns at the show, however, there outta be a bathroom, closet, stall, tree behind which we can reload before venturing out into the parking lot.
I ain't worried about someone capping me at the show, but I am a little concerned about the 2 mile trek out to my vehicle.
