Harris County Deputy killed in the line of duty

Post by Scott B. »

A HCSO deputy was shot conducting a traffic stop and critical injured. The deputy and the department could use your prayers.

And, is there nothing more useless than politicians speaking after a sheriff (or other police official) has given you a briefing? What a waste of oxygen getting their faces in front of the cameras.

We will wait to see if the suspect was out on bond.

The comments section has many praising the officer by neighbors in the area who knew him.

I did not know this deputy as I do others through the business, but we did exchange greetings on Wednesday. He was inside the Raceway gas station not far from the shooting making his rounds. Seemed to be well known by the employees.

The gas station tacos I purchased were not as kind (lame attempt at levity on a crappy day).

Sadly, another HCSO deputy was killed about a mile-and-half west of this shooting in 2015 along the same stretch of road.

Information out on the web is saying the suspect was released early from prison. Had violated his parole, but they elected to not put him back in prison. He then violated his parole again and this time they ordered him back to prison, but he became a fugitive.

A lot of outpouring of grief for this officer. Many posts today about what a great officer and man he was.

RIP.

This shows a major problem with our parole system. He had an active warrant for his arrest for violating parole for more than two years. Why had he not been arrested? Why had the parole officer not notified anyone when he stopped checking in? This is why most major departments have fugitive task forces, just to get people like him back in jail. All parolee's who stop making their weekly (or monthly) meetings with their parole officer should immediately be reported to local police agencies for arrest.

More prison's, some people can't be reformed, just evil. Letting people out early to make space for other criminals doesn't make sense to me.

What's bad is this guy will be "praised" in prison, maybe it's best he gets out on a really cheap bond.

Can I borrow someone's shovel need it for landscaping purposes only of course.

Judge says death likely outcome, denies bail. Sounds like his first point of appeal. Refreshing to see such honesty.
