AR Buffer Tube Defect

Post by BSHII »

I installed an Aero Precision rifle buffer tube on a 6.5 Grendel build I did earlier this year. About 150 rounds without any malfunctions, but this week, I noticed the stock was a little loose. I tried to tighten, and then loosen, the screw holding the stock on the tube, but the screw just spun without threading in or out.

It turns out, the end of the buffer tube had separated from the cylinder and was just spinning with the screw. I managed to get the screw out somehow, and the end of the tube just fell out. Photos below. I'm not sure how the end of the tube is supposed to be joined to the buffer, but whatever they did seems insufficient to me.

Has anyone ever encountered this before?

Ouch! I can not tell much from the pictures as the damaged area is a out of focus. Does the broken piece show any evidence of torque damage? Recoil damage seems more likely than torque.
