I guess it would depend on what you are shooting at

Pasadena doesn't seem to have its ordinances online. You might be able to review them at city hall. Otherwise, you might want to ask a friendly cop. Cops aren't lawyers, but if they say they won't ticket you for it, you're probably good to go.
Then again, if the neighbors complain, you'll have a hassle.
Most towns either completely prohibit air guns and BB guns, or allow them at a certain distance from residences with an appropriate backstop.

Here is what I found at Municode. It only prohibits it in public squares, parks or streets. The link to Pasadena's ordinances is here LINK
Sec. 20-3. Prohibiting firearms, air guns, etc., and their discharge in, across or near public squares, parks, or streets.
(a) Any person who shall discharge any gun, pistol or other firearm of any description, or who shall shoot an air gun, air pistol, bow and arrow or any like device, in, along, or near any public street, public park, or street within the city shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
(b) Any person who shall possess any gun, pistol, firearm of any description, bow and arrow, or any like device in a public park within the city, except the Pasadena Police Department firing range, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
(c) Subsections (a) and (b) shall not apply to bow and arrow, in a public park where there is conducted an archery range maintained or approved by the City of Pasadena Recreation Department.
(Code 1964, § 17-3; Ord. No. 74-75, § 1, 4-16-74)
