Sighting a firearm, laser assistance?
I saw this laser that you stick in the bore of your firearm to sight it at wallymart. Anyone ever tried one of these things? They are around 40 bucks.
I have a laser boresighter...the kind that mimicks an actual cartridge that you chamber, not the kind that you fit into the bore with O-rings and what not. It seemed like a good idea at the time, and I don't consider it wasted money. It can help you get on paper quicker. But the one I have is not very bright; even on an overcast day at the range, I'd be hard pressed to see it out to 50 yards. I'm sure there are brighter ones made. And it isn't accurate enough for full sight-in. It can get you in the black, but you still have to tweak the windage and elevation to tune it in.
Like Dan said, starting close and working out isn't much slower.

I have the muzzle sight type, which comes with several caps for a range of calibers. I've used it on five firearms and for the $30 plus, it's been great. You may find that you'll have to do a bit of fine adjustment with out it but it will definitely get you on target with very few shots.
p.s. The tough part is when using outdoors in normal light. I found that if you use a small piece of 3M reflective tape (type used on commercial trailers), you'll be able to pick up the dot without any problems in most light conditions.
