Completed Renewal Class today........

Post by AEA »

Shot much better than I did 4 years ago and with a brand new gun I had never shot before (carried a reliable backup just in case).

I used a Kimber Pro CDP II and shot 2 in the #7 ring and 1 outside. All 47 others counted 5 points for a total of 246. The 3 and 7 yard shots, a bunch when through the same hole! I of course did not want a perfect score anyway, which was the intent of the outliers. ;-)

Then, I managed to get a 98 on the written test! Missed one tricky question!

Pretty good day and first time I have shot outdoors with a pistol.

I highly recommend Phil and Cesare at http://www.txconcealedcarry.com/ for anyone in the McKinney or surrounding areas. These Guys do a great job. No bull and no talking down to you. They tell you what you need to know and you demonstrate your safety, shooting and Laws recognition and you're outta there!

I'm glad to hear that the gun shot well. You were smart to bring a back-up.
Sounds like you had a good class.

Wow, you oughta get out more. I can hardly stand shooting indoors, especially pistols.

Yea.....

There is an outdoor range not too far from me that I have heard about and I have talked to the owner by phone.

It's called Ralph Williams' Range and it is in Tom Bean which is just East of Howe off 75 (North of Mckinney).
It is a "Honor System" Range and you just put your 3.00 in the box and shoot all you want to!!!!

I have purchased some spinner targets and I will be going out there on nice days and staying away from the indoors from now on.

You sure the guy next to you didn't drop a few on your target

That is one big fuzzy bullet hole

-edit- that just sounded wrong

may I ask why, cause I think it's been covered that the only thing that is recorded is Pass/Fail.

and I KNOW Phil or Cesare didn't tell you that. They taught my class, back at Collin County Gun Range, and never said anything of the such.

I agree that going to them is great, Cesare has a great sense of humor, too!
and congrats on your renewal.

I am aware it is only pass or fail.
No they did not tell me anything about Perfect Score.

I made that comment in jest....I actually missed those three shots by my own inefficiency. The original post has been edited with emotions to indicate that.

Another point I should bring up which I found interesting..........
I was one of 9 people to attend the renewal. One of them was removed because he was there too early (not close enough to renewal time "six Months").

Of the remaining 8, I was the ONLY one that was carrying, cocked, locked and loaded in the class! I found that strange. :o
Two of the eight were female and the one sitting next to me told me that she had not shot since her first CHL class 4 years ago!
On the range many were all over the target! I guess that I got into a bunch that have their CHL's for the purpose of exercising their 2nd amendment rights only (as Licensed by the State) instead of actually carrying 24/7 like I do.......

When Phil wanted to check all the guns that the peep's brought for safety, I informed him that I was "Hot". He showed no concern at all and simply said that he would check my gun once we got to the range, which he did.

BTW Do I know you? How did you know that my name was "Allan" to make the quote above?
Just curious as my "handle" on here is AEA and not my name. And although you obviously do know my name, you do not know how to spell it. My first name is Alan.

Ah, I apologize for the misspelling. I had noticed on numerous occasions others refer to you as Alan, and so I inferred that you were, indeed, named Alan.

I get the joke, now. nicely done. got a good chuckle now.
it's just that the one thread that talked about the whole "Betta not gets no puhfect skor!!" and I  was like, not another one!!!

anyway, it IS interesting that no one else was packing that SmokeWagon.
'specially if you read the thread about the guys getting robbed after shooting at the range. turned out they left with no ammo, so didn't have anything to defend themselves with (gun-wise) and ended up losing a really nice target gun, and maybe a rifle (CRS prevents me from remembering quite all the details).
anyway, catch ya later.
