glock barrel question

Post by rguerra911 »

i have seen some people talking about different barrels for different calibers. does this mean that the barrels are interchangeable to make ur gun a different caliber? if so, which models does this work with? thanks for your time. rob

Yes, caliber conversions are possible with some Glocks. The conversion barrels are aftermarket ones and they are made by several companies. One of the is http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=238.

The list referenced above will show which Glock models will accept conversion barrels.

Also the .40SW and .357SIG Glocks can be converted between the two by doing nothing more than swapping the barrels (standard barrels, not special conversion barrels). Some people also advocate using the mags indicated for use with whichever caliber you're firing, but others say there is no difference between the mags except the caliber markings stamped into them.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

The .40SW/.357 Sig swap is definitely doable, just keep in mind, if you shoot a 40SW G22, 23, 27 etc, it must be a late 2nd gen version or later to accommodate the .357 Sig without potential frame damage.

Late 2nd Gen and later 40SW's have the reinforced rail/block inserts. All .357 Sig models have this feature.

Swapping 40 or .357 Sig guns to 9mm with a conversion barrel will possibly require an extractor change. 15 degree models are usually OK, some of the 90 degree models will probably need a specific 9mm extractor.

9mm, 40SW and .357 Sig mags all seem to work equally well with the 9mm conversion IME.

I put a couple hundred rounds through a G23 with a Storm Lake 9mm barrel. It ran flawlessly with G19 9mm magazines but repeatedly choked when I used the original G23 .40S&W mags. I think the feed lips were too wide to reliably feed the 9mm rounds.

The .40 and .357 sig can use same mags but 9mm needs a 9mm mag also i read where a sig239 would not feed reliably with .40 mags shooting .357sig cartridge,if you shot the .357 sig you needed to use the.357 sig magazine,I would hate for somebody to have a ftf at a time when it could mean life or death due to an improper magazine, but i guess in the other sig models with double stack mags they function fine
