Some of you might have read my thread about looking for a WWII 1911. I don't normally brag about my firearms or even post what I have, but this one is kind of special.
Well I found what I wanted with a price I wanted to pay.
Model of 1911 US Army, made in 1917. When I saw it I knew it was the one, it had the right amount of wear and condition that I expected in a 100 year old war horse. I wasn't planning on getting one of this vintage but I couldn't be happier.
She was a bit dirty but I cleaned her right up. No rust or pitting just wear. She has definitely been shot given the amount of oil and crud, especially in the original magazine. It might have had some of France still in it. Barrel is in good condition but is not 100% original. Given the markings and stamps, the barrel is from the batch right after my serial number range so still period correct but from 1918.
Everything else appears to be all original and it has never gon through any official arsenal Rebuilds.
Off to shoot it tomorrow for our 4th celebrations!

I carried an M1911A1 in the 1st Cavalry Division, but yours has some real history.

Very nice addition to the collection. Have you fired it yet? Have it checked out and use light to moderate loads. My vintage 1911 loves to be fired occasionally.

I still shoot my 1943 Ithaca 1911A1. The only things I did to it was to install a buffer pad and a slightly heavier recoiled spring so that it would handle modern ammunition more safely, but I kept the original spring.AF-Odin wrote: Fri Jul 03, 2020 5:54 pm Very nice addition to the collection. I shot it sparingly yesterday, functioned flawlessly.
