What brand or style do you use for Dove hunting? I’ve Game Winner or Magellan the past couple of years, but the quality isn’t as good as I would like. Looking for the next best mouse trap. Thanks for your help.

Re: Dove bag/vest
I just always bought what ever was at walmart. Vest style with pocket on back. They last for several years and work just fine.I never considered a vest helping me hit more birds. Maybe that has always been my problem.Iaoriseis wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:28 am What brand or style do you use for Dove hunting? I much prefer bird bags (shell bags on sides and larger bird bag in back) vs a vest. And I like fixed bags vs sliders. (or tie them in place)

The one I have now,I have had for probably 10 years. I think I got it from Academy. Not an item I would invest a large amount of money in, simply because, I’ll only wear it maybe 6 or 7 times during dove season. Mine is faded, has a couple of tears in it, but still functions for what I need.
I guess if you want top of the line, you can try this: https://www.filson.com/lightweight-shoo ... -000000042

Of important note- regardless of which style you choose- they all work better with some of last year's feathers and dried blood in the pouches!

Re: Dove bag/vest
Several years ago I actually left a bird in mine. I had hung the vest on a hook in the garage. I kept smelling something dead in my garage. Smell went away and i moved on. The next dove season I grabbed the vest off the hook and a few feathers flew out from the side. Stuck my hand in the pocket and pulled out a very dried up dove. I limited out several times that season so yeah, it works.flechero wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2020 11:45 am Of important note- regardless of which style you choose- they all work better with some of last year's feathers and dried blood in the pouches!![]()

It is easy to do after a long hot day of shooting birds.

Re: Dove bag/vest
I have moved away from a vest for dove hunting, especially in warm weather. Have found a 5 gallon camo bucket much more useful. It is used to carry in boxes of shells, disassembled mojo, bottled water, etc. Then used during the (mostly lawn chair sit-down) hunt for empty hulls and to keep fire ants off dead birds.

In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.
