At the end of the article it said civilians can buy it for a mere 19,000.00 including the scope. 19K??? I only wish my bank account could handle a deduction like that. One can only imagine what the xtra barrels would add to the price per barrel. Then you need the magazines to match the barrel. Yep. I am getting in line now,

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but while it may be news that USSOCOM has approved purchase, I think the Popular Mechanics article is implying this is a brand new platform. But Barrett's had the MRAD--in Fluted, MK22, and SMR models--out since spring of 2018.

And they're available to the public...but they ain't cheap. https://barrett.net/products/firearms/mrad You can get an entry-level model in your choice of caliber for about $5,000. The caliber conversion kits run around $1,600 each. If you want the military deployment model in .338 Lapua, it's a nifty $19,000. But if I were a rich man, I'd be unwrapping one at Christmas...along with its brother, the 82A1. :mrgreen:
