LADSON, S.C. - White House hopeful Fred Thompson called his trip down an aisle of rifles, shotguns and pistols at a gun show Saturday "a day in paradise," and criticized his leading Republican opponents for past positions on gun control and abortion.

I think Thompson is pretty solidly pro-gun.

Let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good, especially when we differ so much on just what "the perfect" is.

Remember, the standardbearer of the Slow Wheat Party ain't gonna win the election, no matter what his views on gun rights happen to be.

Thompson is solid on gun rights. His past votes prove it.

How is it that one man with two handguns could reload time & time again, and go from classroom to classroom on the Virginia Tech campus without being stopped. Much of the answer can be found in policies put in place by the university itself.

Virginia allows citizens with training and legal permits to carry concealed weapons. That means that Virginians regularly sit in movie theaters and eat in restaurants among armed citizens.

The statistics are clear. Communities that recognize and grant Second Amendment rights to responsible adults have a significantly lower incidence of violent crime than those that do not. Incarcerated criminals tell criminologists that they consider local gun laws when they decide what sort of crime they will commit, and where they will do so.

But Virginia Tech administrators overrode Virginia state law and threatened to expel or fire anybody who brings a weapon onto campus. Those "Gun-free Zone" signs don't mean much to the sort of man who murdered 32 people.

It's obvious to me that he knows that any restrictions imply that the government has some power to limit our right.

If "We the people" established this government, then "We the people" gave them the ability to have the weapons they have. There is no way on God's good Earth that they should dare tell us, the people, what we can and cannot have.

Now I do like him bashing Giuliani(D), but unless he shows he actually has a life filled with enjoying firearms (which I have not seen from him), he's just faking it to pander to the pro-gun vote.

He is as big (or bigger) gun nut than anyone else here. I like Fred. I don't think he can win as it stands, but his voting record is solidly pro-gun and more than most other candidates except for Ron Paul maybe.

Who ever I vote for will have to be pro gun and the Ex-Governor from NY won't be it. He can say what ever he wants to but his actions show his true feelings.

Agreed. It would be better than a democrat if Rudy won, but only slightly.
