As far as AOW carry goes, remember that the AOW definition is in federal law and not Texas law. The way I read Texas law most guns federally defined as AOWs would probably be handguns under Texas law.
That said, I own an AOW pen gun and it would be the last firearm I'd ever use in self defense. At 10 feet a group of 10 shots is a couple feet wide. It's designed for use at contact distance. It's also single shot and takes about 30 seconds to reload.

For the first part of your post -- I try to stay away from gun-prohibited places as much as possible, but for the rare times I'm at the Post Office, I lock up the loaded handgun in a small steel safe that is attached to the vehicle. I don't unload as the lack of a magazine or cartridges is a problem esaily remedied by a thief anyway.dwsUSA wrote:It seems to me that carrying an unloaded gun would be much safer to the public than leaving a loaded gun locked in your vehicle. So when you are forced to leave your weapon in your vehicle how many folks unload it as well?
On another note, and I don't mean to open another can of worms here, but what gives a state or federal government the authority to restrict where a person can carry? I'm not interested in a debate on this, just wondering what the law says.
The second part of your post was answered quite well by seamustx.....
