Anti-Gun Propoganda.

I took my daughters to get some shots at our on-base hospital today and while filling out the paperwork I discovered this pamphlet. It's from the American Academy of Pediatrics and its basically a layout of the things you need to do to keep your child healthy. A picture of some un-identifiable firearm with a big yellow slash through it caught my eye. Beside the picture it says:

"Children in homes where guns are present are in much more danger of being shot by themselves, their friends, or family members than being injured by an intruder. It is best to keep all firearms out of the home."

Then in big bold letters it says:

"Handguns are ESPECIALLY dangerous."

It goes on for a while longer about locking firearms up and whatnot and then advises you that if your child visits another home to make sure there are no firearms in the house.

I just thought it was wierd that they would be giving something like this out at a military hospital of all places. A good portion of the base population are in career fields that require the carry of weapons. Before I started working back in our prison I did LE patrol on base and I would say well over 50% of the homes I went into had firearms in them.

I truly wish I could understand why people are so naive to the concept of defending your home and family. Sometimes I really think that they would prefer a family to be raped/murdered than a burglar killed while entering a home.

All I can say is that it isn't restricted to just military hospitals... but I have NEVER seen anything that blatant in any of the locations that I take my kids to. Usually just some boundary violation nonsense on a form.

I believe this is all about a long standing effort since the mid 90's by a gun-control group called "PAX"...

They have had this "ASK" program going on since that time and it fits the mold of their program about asking the parents of children your kids play with if there are any "guns" in the home...

Design to totally warp and set some kind of guilt trip into people who do own guns, but may not be used to the intrusiveness of other parents asking such a "serious" but unnecessary question...

Hard to be short with people you are going to have to get along with that are neighbors, etc etc...

Imagine if one the Democrats win the Presidency and retain a Liberal controlled Congress. They will pass government controlled health care and use this sort of lie to outlaw guns in the home, "for the children".

I honestly think if I ever saw one of those pamphlets or if my kids doctor asked about guns I would find another and tell him why.

Only two hospitals within like 150 miles of me and my kids have to go to the one on base, its hard to get referals. I probably wouldnt change doctors anyway if I liked the guy, as long as my kids are in good hands I dont care if the person doesnt like guns. Besides the doctor is hardly the person that put the pamphlet out for distribution, it was likely someone much higher on the food chain.

This position and public campaign came out of the American Academy of Pediatrics quite a few years ago. In response to that was an email circulated using accidental deaths per physician totals vs. accidental deaths by guns...the conclusion was doctors were 9000 times more likely to cause an accidental death than a gun.

A quick survey of the net spans the positions from "urban legend" to "yes but..."

Imagine what might happen if everyone that thinks something like this wrote to a democrat, explaining why they can't vote for them?

"I can't possibly support a democratic candidate because of your belief in gun control. Here's why gun control is bad policy.
...

Perhaps if you or your party changed your stance on gun control, you might win some extra votes in the next election?"
