TV video this morning indicated 26 year old male had rammed 21 year old female in driver's door as she arrived home in Copper Canyon, then chased her down and shot. Cops had gassed him out of his vehicle and captured this morning in Hickory Creek ... From quick check at Denton County web site, it looks like the shooter was busted last summer for Class A drug possession ...

A 26-year-old man is accused of ramming his vehicle into his ex-girlfriend's car and fatally shooting her in front of her Copper Canyon home early Wednesday morning, a Denton County Sheriff spokesman said.


Patrick Thomas Dyson Patrick Thomas Dyson, 26, is accused of murder in the death of Vanessa Garces, who was shot multiple times about 1 a.m., said Tom Reedy, a sheriff spokesman.

Law enforcement officials followed Mr. Dyson to his home in Hickory Creek just off Main Street. There, a standoff between him and Denton County Sheriff deputies began. It ended about 6:45 a.m. when the Denton County SWAT team shot tear gas into his vehicle, Mr. Reedy said.

Hickory Creek A few seconds later, Mr. Dyson ran from the car.

Deputies tried to end the standoff early in the morning before children and residents began coming out of their homes and starting their day, Mr. Reedy said. Several homes in the area were also evacuated as a precaution, he said.

Mr. Dyson was arrested by Denton County in June for possession of a control substance.

He was in the Denton County jail on a murder charge Wednesday morning. No bail had been set.
