Database error fixed -- I think! -- I hope!!

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

I'm sure a lot of you folks experienced error messages trying to post. I've been working on it most of the morning and it seems to be fixed. If anyone has any trouble, please post the error message in this thread. It turned out to be a corrupted SQL database and I hope it's over.

I'll be upgrading to Olympus sometime later tonight or this weekend, but I'll post a separate notice about down time.

Sorry for the trouble,
Chas.

The only thing I've noticed is lots of multiple posts. Is that related?

I don't see any errors anymore. I do see more duplicate posts than normal though. It could have been temporary and they won't happen any more, but it is something to keep an eye on.

Looks like even though we were getting error messages, the posts were in que, so once the issue was resolved, the database updated.

Since the database repair, they should stop.

Gotta love ACID transaction databases when they eventually roll forward.

Just think of it as a post count bump

One thing I just noticed may be an unrelated fluke.

I've been reading new posts of the 68 reported since last visit.

There were 35 on the first page and there showed to be a second page.

However, when I went to the second page, it was blank.

Let's eliminate the easy stuff first. How long did it take you to read the first page? I ask because if you had to refresh or do something like that then the "last login time" could have been updated to something much more recent (like now) and then there are no posts since last login. If nobody has seen any posts disappear, then this is most likely an issue with a parameter/variable that got reset and not posts that were deleted accidentally.

Has anyone else seen this happen? Disappearing posts?

Not long enough for the messages to stop showing up.

I kept refreshing and going back to the imaginary second page again and again as the count climbed to 69, 70, etc.

I never meant to imply that any posts had disappeared.

I was thinking it was just a problem with the search function.

I finally left the site with the count at 72 or 73, not quite sure, but only the first page was displaying.

I experienced the same thing Mike is describing.

When I called up "new messages since last visit" and saw (approx) 61 posts found, I scrolled to the bottom to verify two pages and immediately went to the second page. Second page was empty.
