Need Christmas Help Update - She likes it!

Post by Dragonfighter »

Before I start, is the forum updated or is it just the pooter I'm on? Anyhow, all the help and input on my wife's new carry pistol was invaluable. We had a well informed conversation about it and she wanted to see the Kel Tek P3AT and guess what, once she tried it on for size, she loves it. Part of that is the only shooting she will be doing is a periodic familiarization. Our rangemaster showed her a "lock down grip" technique which seated the pistol well and the recoil is manageable.

The actual training, continuing and otherwise (where lots o' bullets fly) will be with one of our other weapons. Thanks again for all of the input and help.

Merry Christmas,
I'm glad she found one she likes!
Now, I hope she never has to use it.

I'm glad she found the right gun. I wish more women would carry.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

That's good to know.

Could you describe this "lock down grip"? Sounds like something I might want to adopt. (My wife likely won't ever go back to the Kel-Tec, except as a last resort, since shooting it excited her carpal tunnel syndrome.)

I agree...How the firearm feels in their hand(s) is almost the top consideration, even before caliber or any other feature...Especially for a novice or unpracticed shooter...

It is similar to a standard two handed grip. It starts by sliding hte support hand's thumb along the firing hand's thumb. Then rolling the support hand's fingers under and in front of the firing hand's fingers and squeezing with the support hand. It locks the pistol back and seated in the webbing of the firing hand; locks down and keeps the firing hand's thumb down and clear of the slide and supports the grip strength. Tried it myself and found it fascinating. The big guy who instructs there could slap the snot out of the muzzle (harder than any recoil) and it would not turn, slip or hurt either of our CP wrists. Recoil is almost a non-issue.

I do not know if this will adapt well to medium and large frame pistols though. Will have to try and get back on that. The other thing is it will take some practice before it is a natural grip.
