Missing PMs?

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Does anyone have reason to believe they aren't getting PMs? I've had two people tell me they sent PMs and I didn't receive them.

Not exactly. I sent one that was received, but a copy of it did not go into my Sentbox. I have had no problem since then.

I have caught myself punching the preview button & then going back to something else. That will not get it sent.  I am probably the only one on the board that computer illiterate though.

I have sent two PM's to Mods that I have not received a response to (in both cases a question was asked).

Of course that doesn't mean they weren't received, maybe they just weren't responded too...I have no way of knowing.

The last two PM's I sent stayed in my outbox.

The one before that, on the new system, worked fine.

Any suggestions?

This doesn't make any sense to me but, in my experience, it seems to work - If you click preview first, and then submit, there is a better chance that they will be sent. :???:

Looks like our test messages crossed in cyberspace!

The message I created and previewed, per your suggestion, appeared in my sent box.

My previous message still sits in my outbox.

Maybe Charles will have time to look into this.

It's possible that the 'missing' PM's were sitting unnoticed in the sender's outbox.

It would explain why they thought they were sent successfully.

The reply to your PM was sent by clicking preview and then submit. A subsequent PM that I sent using the same method is still in my outbox. :???:

Mike -
I received you latest PM without preview. I answered with preview and it must have gotten sent as it's not in the sent box. The mystery continues...

Of my replies to you, one is still sitting in my outbox.

Of the ones that went and the one that didn't, all were not previewed.

So that may not be the answer, but I still think this may be what happened to the missing PM's.

Mike - Are you using Outlook Express? I just pressed the Send/Recv button and it sent the PM from my outbox. Maybe that is what is hanging things up. I usually don't have OE open unless I am checking or sending emails.

Actually, what I use is Earthlink's Total Access, which is simply their front end on Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.

So if I am online, it is running.

But Outlook Express isn't involved in sending PM's and I have no Send/Recv button in the forum outbox.

I have other PM hung up in the outbox. I think the computer guys will have to figure this one out. BTW - This problem isn't new. I have had it ever since joining the forum.

The message that was residing in my outbox was just sent, 9 hours after my first attempt.
