ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
12/28/2007
A Domino’s pizza deliveryman who shot and killed a would-be robber in Pagedale has a valid permit to carry a weapon and appears to have acted in self-defense, according to St. Louis County police.
The driver, who works for the Domino’s franchise nearby in University City, delivered an order at 7 p.m. Thursday to a phony address in the 6500 block of Julian Avenue, where two armed men announced a robbery. The driver pulled his own pistol and fired shots, striking one of the robbers.
Brian Smith, 19, of the 600 block of Ferguson Avenue in Ferguson, was pronounced dead at the scene, said officer Tracy Panus, the department spokeswoman. The other gunman fled. Police arrested a suspect this afternoon and booked him pending application of warrants, she said.
Panus said the driver may have been fired upon, but was not wounded. She said officers found a pistol at the scene that hadn’t been fired.
The driver surrendered his own weapon and showed officers a concealed-carry permit from Florida. Panus said officers verified the permit this afternoon.
Panus said Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch’s office will review the police reports but added, "It doesn’t appear to us that (the driver) did anything wrong."
Local Domino’s executives could not be reached. A spokeswoman for Domino’s headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich., said the company was cooperating, but referred all questions to police

If the delivery guy worked for Pizza Hut, he'd be fired for defending himself. Which is why I try to avoid Pizza Hut. I'll be interested to see how Domino's handles this, if it makes the news again.

I drove for Dominos a few years back, they had a "no weapons" policy. It never made sense to me, really, who would risk their job to defend their life?

We'll see if Domino's requires employees to place a higher value on corporate policy than preservation of their own lives, as does Pizza Hut.

Re: Pizza deliveryman who shot robber had gun permit
I just saw an episode of "Weaponology" which featured the history of Body armor. The father of the modern ballistic vest was once a pizza delivery driver who shot three (killed two) gang members in the late 70's that had held him up.

Mars delivered pizzas for both Pizza Hut and Dominoes off-and-on during college. It always made me nervous, especially with the area we were living in.

Re: Pizza deliveryman who shot robber had gun permit
And New Yorkers claim they got the only pizza worth dying over, maybe the 19 year old robber shoulda been delivering pizzas,I wonder if 2nd suspect will be charged with a homicide, due to somebody being kilt during commission of a felony
It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them
Re: Pizza deliveryman who shot robber had gun permit
I worked for Pizza Hut during my stint in college we had the "Official Policy" and then we had the "don't ask don't tell" policy. But if you every used your "imaginary" weapon you would be fired.
Re: Pizza deliveryman who shot robber had gun permit
Mars never liked carrying b/c he didn't have a CHL at the time. Our income was below the poverty line then, and there was no way we could have afforded for him to get a CHL. In fact, we only had one handgun at the time, and it was the revolver my dad had given me before I met Mars.Aric wrote:I worked for Pizza Hut during my stint in college we had the "Official Policy" and then we had the "don't ask don't tell" policy. There is a provision for reducing the fee in case of indigence.Venus Pax wrote:Mars never liked carrying b/c he didn't have a CHL at the time. Our income was below the poverty line then, and there was no way we could have afforded for him to get a CHL.

When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.
