I'm sure Mr. Cotton would do a fine job if he had to, but why would anyone want to take a pay cut and put up with all the hassle of being DA of Harris County?

I think the position is mainly a stepping stone to state attorney general or a judgeship.

Can we write in "Fred Thompson" on the ballot? We'd have a gun friendly DA plus we could play the Law & Order "DUNH! DUNH!" before he walked in... lol.

My office is in downtown Houston, which is Harris County, but I live in Galveston County. Plus, Mr. Bradford might make my civil trial attorney background an issue.

I worked as a comm officer in the Air Force, dealt with running email systems, and saw some interesting things, but it never ceases to amaze me what people will put into the email system of large/public organizations. What a bonehead.

And ya gotta laugh at the latest developments: Seems the letter Rosenthal presented at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday after pressure from the Harris County Republican party was--"DUNH! DUNH!"--not legal. The letter must specifically state that he is withdrawing his name from the ballot, and it must be notarized; neither was the case. So they're trying to decide this morning if, technically, Rosenthal never withdrew by the 6:00 p.m. deadline, which would render invalid any filing but Leitner's (because his was made before the Wednesday deadline). And evidently even if all parties are willing to let that little formality slide and assume the letter was correctly intentioned, the law also allows Rosenthal to change his mind, should he choose, so long as he does so by todays extended deadline of 6:00 p.m.

How bizarre is that? I don't think anyone believes Rosenthal overtly rendered his withdrawal letter invalid...I said I don't think so.

Which makes me wonder how assistant DA Kelly Siegler if feeling this morning. She threw her hat into the ring 21 hours after Rosenthal "withdrew," and she brings her 21 years of experience, a good deal of recent media exposure, and 25 fellow prosecutors who showed up to show support as she signed on. The basic position statement of her announcement was that many talented and experienced prosecutors would be cleaned out if a candidate from outside the DA's office wins. BUT, Siegler was not one of the two assitants that Rosenthal had said that he wanted to see run (I think those two were Denise Bradley and Marc Brown; could be mistaken on that, though). Rosenthal evidently took Siegler's announcement with silence.

I wonder if TSRA has any RKBA info on any of our new candidates?

There is an interesting approach Kelly Siegler took during her announcement the other evening...

"I am not a politician."

District Attorney jobs are an interesting position, part politician, part investigation and enforcement...At least thats what I've gleened it down to its basic parts...

I believe from our position in this forum that it would be fair for Harris County voters to know these candidates clear position on citizens and their individual right to keep and bear arms...

And ask them all a pointed question in regards to the issue that started Chuck Rosenthal down the path out the door back in 2005...

In a sense do they agree or dissagree with Rosenthals position on the legislative intent to clear up the unlicenced carry of a firearm by anyone who is not excluded to doing so in a vehicle in the state of Texas...(as simple as I could put it at this time)

Where they fall on that, will help us who are going to have to live with this decision, make it...

Its going to be an interesting campaign...

If I manage to get these answers, I will post them here with verifiable references for all to see...I believe it is important to get thier positions on this...Chuck made it clear he was not our friend in this regard...We need someone who is going to do the job they are voted into here, and do a better job of honoring the intent, however flawed, the efforts of the legislature...Period...
