How to avoid an 'AD' AND a 'man with gun' call

So.... I am going to a bank I use occasionally, and they are posted 30-06, so that means in the parking lot I have to unholster my pistol from my tucked IWB holster, conceal it under the seat, get up and go to do the business in the bank, return to the car, retrieve and re-holster my pistol... all the while avoiding both an AD and a 'man with a gun' 911 call from someone who parks next to me during either part of this process... other than do your business elsewhere.... what suggestions or tips can ya'll offer???

A clip-on holster can be removed from your belt in seconds without removing the piece from the holster, and replaced nearly as quickly.

It isn't really 'my' bank... I use the my company FCU (Federal Credit Union), which does not post 30.06, but is an inconvenient location since I work in a satellite office... they are members of a 'FCU Co-op' that allows me to use another member FCU... and the only FCU in my area is JSC FCU, which posts 30.06 at all its' branches, and I can only use the co-op services at the inside teller, not the drive up... hence the problem...

All kidding aside...

I would probably take a look around an find something else that is just as convienient, or even better for you...Its your money, and if they do not respect your rights as a gun owner, much less a customer...I'd walk, and take the money with you...

There are many more banks and options out there for you...I guarantee you that...

I'd close the account, and when they ask why...Just show them...

No need to get yourself all worked up about it...Its the New Year...Good time to make a change for the better...

I use a tuckable IWB also. On the few occasions (I go to some length not to patronize 30.06 places) when I have left my gun behind, I haven't found it much of a problem. I try to park away from others, untuck the shirt, make sure no one is walking up to my vehicle, and simply and smoothly as possible unholster and put the gun under my seat or in a console (I do wish I had a COM-like lockbox), depending on vehicle. I make double doggone sure I have my trigger finger indexed properly, and no problems.

I also make it a point to leave the pistol in a position where I can pick it up again without fumbling around. I was taught, and agree with, the concept that I should never pick up the pistol another way than stronghand using the master grip (i.e. just like i am going to shoot it), with trigger finger indexed properly. Picking the pistol up by the muzzle, or over the top, or any other way than in the master grip gives too many ways to get an inadvertent finger inside the trigger guard.

When I pick it up, again I look around to make sure no one is approaching, and as smoothly as possible pick it up and hold it, again via master grip, between my knees under the steering wheel, muzzle straight down at the floor (not my foot) and do a chamber check (I always do this when the pistol has been out of my direct control). One more check of the perimeter, and then holster it in pretty much one move. I don't bother tucking my shirt in over it until I get some place where I can do it easily. Scrootching around in the car to try tucking the shirt in over it is too much fiddling around.

Most of all, once I check that the coast is clear, I do my darnedest to totally focus on what I am doing with the pistol -- splitting attention between that and what's going on around me seems an invitation to error.

It also helps that my vehicles have as dark a window tint as the law allows. And in the case of my pickup truck, it is tall enough that it's not easy to see down into it from the outside unless you are Yao Ming!

I got this down to a science while helping my wife set her classroom up this summer.

Grab a towel, and hold it over your shirt and weapon. Pull your shirt up, with the towel covering. Using the towel like a "big glove" grab the weapon and pull it out of the holster.

The weapon will be completely covered by the towel. Put the towel and weapon in the glove compartment.


Reholstering is the reverse, but takes a bit of care so nothing get snagged. With some practice, it' easy.

Go to a stall at work or a store and remove the gun and holster. Put in in a rug or bag and take it with you. It is better to remove the gun and holster than to only remove the gun. It is also better to do it in a place you can control what you are doing.

That said, I would find another bank or get someone else to do the job if it was work related. I would also "educate" this bank. Don't allow them to remain ignorant and think those signs are going to do anything but get someone killed. Very kindly let them know we are not the problem and why. A bank is the last place I will enter without the ability to defend myself and other innocents. I had rather drive a distance than be caught without that heavy bunch of metal and plastic I have been hauling around for so long.

I have an account with Wachovia and have never noticed a 30.06 posted at any of the 3 branches I have used...which branch have you visited that has it posted?
