Thanks, Guy. I'm such a newbie at this handgun thing that I really needed you to point that out in capital letters. A little sensitve to the word "tupperware" maybe? Yep, a fan of the "all steel 1911s" too, but have owned at least one or two Glocks at a time since 1990. And learned the difference between "their" and "there" about 50 years ago ...

9mm in WWB costs me 13 cents a pop. Assuming he bought that, 250,000 rounds is $32,500.00!age_ranger wrote:Sounds like a great pistol..........too bad it's life ran out. That's allot of money in ammo to put through it, for sure!!
Can you let us know the outcome and timeline?

Assumptions are dangerous...My wife would kill me if she knew I'd smoked $32K worth of ammo since 1998. My expenditure is probably closer to $20,000 over that amount of time and I've been able to claim ammunition and firearm purchases as unreimbursed business expenses for the last two fiscal years.lawrnk wrote:9mm in WWB costs me 13 cents a pop. You are paying too much for 9mm ammo...If you want to shoot more, consider reloading because the cost of buying reloads from someone else is still higher than reloading yourself. Ammo costs have also more than doubled in the past 18-months...Most of the round count on this gun is from prior to 2006 when prices were probably 60% lower than they are now. Additionally, I most certainly did not buy all that ammo and that which I did buy, I bought at a significant discount.
Finally, I'm only responsible for a little more than half the rounds through that gun. It was owned by a very high volume, IDPA shooter before me and it has been used in more than two dozen, 1000 round plus weekend training sessions above and beyond my own shooting.
FWIW, the average pack a day cigarette smoker (like my parents) blows $3000-$4000 annually on tobacco products. And there is no gain to that...Only health hazards, higher health insurance rates and no tax deductions!
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

Do you know anyone in Houston selling hand loads? I'm always game for cheaper ammo.G.C.Montgomery wrote:lawrnk wrote:9mm in WWB costs me 13 cents a pop. Re: My G34 finally died...Cracked slide.
I haven't looked into that in years. T's recently sold or is in the process of selling their gear. As I said, my recommendation is to reload yourself. I'm not willing to deal with the potential liabilities of selling reloaded ammo or buying it from someone else. If I blow up one of my firearms, I've got no one to blame but myself. In the meantime, I'm able to keep costs as low as $0.08/round for 9mm if I buy components in sufficient bulk to get a price break. What I haven't been able to do is get .45 costs below $0.20/round while still producing ammunition with external ballistics similar to my carry loads. And that's why I'm buying 9mm these days.lawrnk wrote:Do you know anyone in Houston selling hand loads? I'm always game for cheaper ammo.

Hey GC
My loads using 185 moly lead swc from precision bullets shoots to exact same point of aim as Hornady 185 xtp jhps. (including powder and primer about 12 cents a round)

Thanks for the load Jeremae. Unfortunately, moly coated lead let isn't acceptable in the places I shoot most of the time and my current carry loads in .45 are all 230grain JHP's. If I ever change, I'll difinitely look into it.Jeremae wrote:Hey GC

Using the Montana Gold 230 CMJ (full metal jacket plus plated base), I can duplicate the 230 JHP rounds for about 18 cents (I occasionally run across deals on midway for winchester or remington 230 fmj that is a little (1 or 2 cents) cheaper.

My cost challenges have been powder and primers. Both got more expensive but I haven't found a powder that metered consistently and performed like VV N320. What powder are you using?Jeremae wrote:Using the Montana Gold 230 CMJ (full metal jacket plus plated base), I can duplicate the 230 JHP rounds for about 18 cents (I occasionally run across deals on midway for winchester or remington 230 fmj that is a little (1 or 2 cents) cheaper.

win 231 using a lee autodisk I drop 5.5 (+-.05 is my measured varience across I don't know how many rounds) for 185 and 5.1 for 230 get less than 10 feet per sec varience on 10 rounds chronod

Re: My G34 finally died...Cracked slide.
I'll have to look into 231 again. The last time I tried it, it didn't do so well in my Dillon powder drop. If I've got to change my powder dispenser it will have to wait. I found out this afternoon that the malfunctioning tranny in my truck was supposedly caused by a crossleak from the radiator. Tranny, radiator and tranny-cooler are all going to be replaced...Actually, the tranny will simply be rebuilt. Still, total bill is $4100. I think I'm going to be primarily shooting 9mm for a while longer unless I get a LOT of requests for CHL classes on weekends.Jeremae wrote:win 231 using a lee autodisk I drop 5.5 (+-.05 is my measured varience across I don't know how many rounds) for 185 and 5.1 for 230 get less than 10 feet per sec varience on 10 rounds chronod
