An offer we couldn't refuse....
... from the NRA.
I now wish I would have posted this Saturday evening so that Sunday gun show attendees could have been on the look-out.
The NRA was offering new or renewal memberships for $25 (regularly $35 for one year) AND free entrance to the gun show.
Even if you're paid up for a few years, you could still tack on an extra year. Dad & I did the math, and it amounted to $18 for a year's membership. $35 (regular price) - $10 (NRA show discount) -$7 (gun show) = $18.
I've never seen them do this at a gun show. Are they just starting this or is this a regular occurrence and I've just missed it all this time?
Keep an eye out for them. It's a good deal for a good cause.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

They did this at the Pasadena gunshow a couple months ago.

They have always done this at the Saxet in Austin. I just re-upped for 3 more years this weekend.
Then after I had done that, he told me about some "legacy" program to get lifetime NRA membership for $300 if you could get a current life member to sponsor you type of thing. $75 for 3 years or $300 for life? I think I got the wrong deal...

They also did this at the last GRB show. My wife used the opportunity to get her son into the NRA.
TSRA was making the same offer at the Reliant.

Dad & I have discussed it thoroughly. We came to the conclusion that $35 per year is much cheaper than the cold-dead-hands experience.flintknapper wrote:A big THANKS to all those who continue to support the NRA/TSRA/etc...

Re: An offer we couldn't refuse....
Venus Pax,
Thanks for stopping by our booth. My name is Charlie, and you signed up either with me, my wife, my daughter, or our friend Linda. I have been running the NRA membership table at the entrance to the Houston Gun Collectors gun shows for about 15 years. We started the "Get In Free" offer about three years ago. This was made possible by the Houston Gun Collectors Association (HGCA) when they started allowing me to buy tickets at a discounted price. I only set up at the HGCA shows (I am a member of that club). Some of the other shows also have a "Get in Free," but they are run by other recruiters.
You forgot to mention the free hat you receive when you sign up at the HGCA gun shows. The NRA Store charges $12.95 plus $4.95 shipping for this hat. If you add that to the value of the gun show ticket, it's like you are getting the NRA membership -- with its magazine subscription, $1,000 gun theft insurance, $10,000 accident insurance, news alerts, and other benefits -- for free!
In spite of this being "an offer too good to refuse," there are many people who do turn us down. I realize that many of our show attendees are life members, so naturally they walk past us. But there are many others who will stop, listen to our offer, and turn us down. I probably have heard every excuse in the world why they do not join. The bottom line is they are too cheap to spend the $25 per year. They know that there are 4 million other gun owners who financially support gun rights, and they feel it is aceptable to be a "welfare bum" and ride on the backs of these NRA members. If you have a friend who is one of these freeloaders, please encourage him to start paying his way for his gun rights. Freedom isn't free.
Fot the past two HGCA shows, we have also had a TSRA table at the entrance to the show. They are also offering a "get in free" when you join the TSRA. The HGCA has three shows per year at the Reliant Center in Houston (go to http://www.hgca.org for the show dates). Time it right, and you can get in free to two of the three.
Many thanks to you and the others who came to our show and supported the NRA and the TSRA.
Regards,
Charlie

Re: An offer we couldn't refuse....
I see similar tables at the SAXET gun show in San Antonio periodically, but I haven't signed up at one of them yet. I am waiting for the deal where if I sign up for an N-year membership, it adds N-years onto the end of my NRA Life Membership and I get to live and shoot that much longer...

ELB,
If I could renew "Life," I would want more than $25 to do it.
Seriously, if an NRA Life Member shows me his card, I will give him a ticket for my cost. Come to the HGCA gun shows in Houston for your best NRA deals.
