Why can't you carry at sporting events?

Post by Doug.38PR »

Why are you not allowed by law to carry at sporting events? Some states (I don't think Texas is one of them if I remember right) don't even allow you to carry around a public parade. What's the problem?
If you can carry in mall's, theaters and other public places why not ball parks and parades? Does the state legislature think muggings and/or shootings can't happen in or outside these places?

Political expediency. It probably wouldn't have passed initially without that restriction.

It was probably argued that folks get stupid at sporting events (think of the abuse some little league coaches and officials deal with) and the stadiums would fill up from all of the blood-letting that would go on.

Parades are not off-limits to CHLs.

You can't carry at a sporting event, because a bad-call by a referee is going to get someone shot. I'm serious, that was the sole argument for that provision. It was one of those we had to accept to get the bill out of committee and on the floor. This provision also ignores the danger spectators face walking back to their cars in dark parking lots. (I can remember at least 3 or 4 murders in the Astrodome parking lots over the years.)

Question, would the WWE be concedered a sporting event. They do profess to be entertainment. My wife is taking our grandson to an event here in Waco next month and I wouldn't want her to pack where she ain't supposed to.

Good question!

Professional? Yes. Sport? I would say no.

Is there competition (winner/loser) for a purse?

There is, but I would argue that for it to be a sport, the winner must not be determined ahead of time.

Have you seen how people from Texas act at a football game? I can see why it was put in there. I surprised we've never had the rioting and fires like other cities have over sporting events.

Because we are Texas.

Football is football.

Shootin' is shootin'.

The old anti adage about blood in the streets does not hold true anywhere. If an individual is going to lose his cool over a football game he probably has issues with other things too.

The whole intent of no carry at sporting events is to disarm everyone because of the behavior of a few.

Reasonable restrictions will get you every time.

Definitely not saying that I agree with no carry at a sporting event, because I don't. I can imagine alot of bad scenarios going down in the parking lot from the stadium to the car that I'd like to be carrying for. I'm just saying I can see why that had to be included to get it originally passed.

So would a monster truck rally be considered a sporting event? Just curious.
